King James Version
John • Chapter 12
1
So Jesus came to Bethany six days before the Passover, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.
2
They made him a feast there, and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those reclining with him.
3
Then Mary took a pound of genuine nard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
4
Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, who was about to betray him, said.
5
Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?
6
And he said this not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief and, having the money bag, he was stealing what was put into it.
7
And Jesus said, "Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial."
8
For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.
9
So the large crowd of the Jews knew that he was there, and they came not only because of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
10
And the chief priests plotted to kill Lazarus also,
11
Because many of the Jews were going to him and believing in Jesus.
12
The next day, the large crowd that had come to the feast, hearing that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13
They took the branches of the palms and went out to meet him, and they cried out: Hosanna, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, and the king of Israel.
14
And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written.
15
Do not fear, daughter of Zion; behold, your king comes, sitting on a colt of a donkey.
16
His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him.
17
Therefore the crowd that was with him bore witness that he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead.
18
For this reason, the crowd also met him because they heard that he had performed this sign.
19
The Pharisees then said to themselves, "You see that you are of no benefit at all; look, the world has gone after him."
20
There were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the feast.
21
These, therefore, approached Philip who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus."
22
Philip comes and says to Andrew; Andrew comes and Philip says to Jesus.
23
But Jesus answers them, saying: The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
24
Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
25
The one who loves his life destroys it, and the one who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
26
If anyone serves me, let him follow me, and where I am, there my servant will be; if anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
27
Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this reason, I came to this hour.
28
Father, glorify your name. Then a voice came from heaven: I have glorified it and will glorify it again.
29
The crowd that was standing and heard said it had thundered; others said, "An angel has spoken to him."
30
Jesus answered and said: "This voice came not because of me, but for your sake."
31
Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.
32
And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.
33
This he said, signifying by what kind of death he was going to die.
34
The crowd answered him, "We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever, and how do you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?"
35
Jesus said to them, "Yet a little while the light is among you. Walk while you have the light, so that darkness may not overtake you; and the one who walks in darkness does not know where he is going."
36
As you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become sons of light. Jesus spoke these things, and after saying them, he went away and hid from them.
37
So many signs of him having done before them, they did not believe in him.
38
So that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said: Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
39
For this reason, they were not able to believe, because again Isaiah said.
40
He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so that they may not see with their eyes and understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.
41
These things said Isaiah because he saw his glory and spoke of him.
42
Nevertheless, many of the rulers also believed in him, but because of the Pharisees, they did not confess it, so that they would not be thrown out of the synagogue.
43
For they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God.
44
But Jesus cried out and said, "The one believing in me does not believe in me, but in the one who sent me."
45
And he who sees me sees the one who sent me.
46
I have come as a light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness.
47
And if anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him, for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.
48
The one who rejects me and does not accept my words has the one judging him; the word that I have spoken, that will judge him on the last day.
49
For I have not spoken on my own, but the Father who sent me has given me a command what I should say and what I should speak.
50
And I know that his command is eternal life. Therefore, whatever I speak, as the Father has told me, so I speak.
