King James Version
John • Chapter 13
1
But before the feast of the Passover, knowing that his hour had come to depart from this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
2
And while the dinner was taking place, the devil already having put into the heart of Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray him,
3
Knowing that the Father has given all things into his hands, and that he came from God and is going to God,
4
He got up from the meal, took off his outer garments, and wrapped a towel around himself.
5
Then he poured water into the basin and began to wash the feet of the disciples and to wipe them with the towel with which he was girded.
6
Therefore, he comes to Simon Peter. He says to him, "Lord, are you washing my feet?"
7
Jesus answered and said to him, "What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this."
8
Peter said to him, "You will never wash my feet." Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with me."
9
Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, not only my feet but also my hands and my head."
10
Jesus said to him, "The one who has been bathed does not need to wash except for his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you."
11
For he knew the one delivering him up; therefore he said, "You are not all clean."
12
When therefore he had washed their feet and had taken his outer garments and reclined again, he said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you?"
13
You call me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for I am.
14
If therefore I washed your feet, the Lord and the Teacher, you also ought to wash one another's feet.
15
For I gave you an example, that just as I did to you, you also do.
16
Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is an apostle greater than the one who sent him.
17
If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.
18
I am not speaking about all of you; I know whom I have chosen; but this is so that the Scripture may be fulfilled: 'The one who eats my bread has lifted his heel against me.'
19
From now on, I tell you before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe that I am.
20
Truly, truly I say to you, he who receives anyone I send receives me, and he who receives me receives the one who sent me.
21
Having said these things, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified and said, "Truly, truly I say to you that one of you will betray me."
22
The disciples were looking at one another, perplexed about what he was saying.
23
There was reclined one of his disciples in the bosom of Jesus, whom Jesus loved.
24
Therefore, Simon Peter gestured to ask who it might be about whom he is speaking.
25
That one reclining thus on the breast of Jesus says to him, "Lord, who is it?"
26
Jesus answers, "That is the one to whom I will dip the morsel and give it." Therefore, having dipped the morsel, he gives it to Judas the son of Simon Iscariot.
27
And after the morsel, then Satan entered into him. Therefore Jesus said to him, "What you are going to do, do quickly."
28
But no one of those reclining knew why he said this to him.
29
Some thought, since Judas had the moneybag, that Jesus was telling him, "Buy what we need for the feast," or that he should give something to the poor.
30
So he took the little bread and immediately went out. And it was night.
31
When then he went out, Jesus says: Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him.
32
If God was glorified in him, God will glorify him in himself, and immediately will glorify him.
33
Little children, I am still with you a little while; you will seek me, and just as I said to the Jews that where I am going you cannot come, now I say to you.
34
A new command I give to you, that you love one another, just as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
35
In this, all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
36
Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus answered, "Where I am going, you cannot follow me now, but you will follow later."
37
Peter says to him: Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.
38
Jesus answers: Will you lay down your soul for me? Truly, truly I say to you, the rooster will not crow until you have denied me three times.
