King James Version

John • Chapter 2

1 And on the third day, a wedding took place in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 And Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." 4 And Jesus said to her, "What is it to me and to you, woman? My hour has not yet come." 5 His mother says to the servants, "Whatever he tells you, do it." 6 There were there six stone water jars lying, according to the purification of the Jews, holding two or three measures each. 7 Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them to the brim. 8 And he says to them, "Now draw out and bring to the master of the feast." And they brought it. 9 When the master of the feast tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from, but the servants who had drawn the water knew, the master of the feast called the bridegroom. 10 And he says to him: Every man first puts out the good wine, and when they have drunk freely, then the worse; you have kept the good wine until now. 11 Jesus made this the first of his signs in Cana of Galilee and manifested his glory, and his disciples believed in him. 12 After this, he went down to Capernaum, he and his mother and his brothers and his disciples, and there they stayed for not many days. 13 And the Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 And he found in the temple those selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers sitting. 15 And having made a whip of cords, he drove all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen, and he poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 And to those who sell doves he said: Take these things away from here; do not make the house of my Father a house of trade. 17 His disciples remembered that it is written: "The zeal of your house will consume me." 18 The Jews therefore answered and said to Him, "What sign do You show us, that You do these things?" 19 Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." 20 The Jews therefore said, "This temple was built in forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days?" 21 But he was saying about the temple of his body. 22 Therefore, when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken. 23 As he was in Jerusalem at the Passover during the festival, many believed in his name, observing the signs he was performing. 24 But Jesus himself did not entrust himself to them because he knew all people. 25 And because he did not need anyone to testify about man, for he himself knew what was in man.
