King James Version
1 Kings • Chapter 15
1
And in the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijah reigned over Judah.
2
He reigned for three years in Jerusalem, and his mother's name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom.
3
And he walked in all the sins of his father that he did before me, and his heart was not whole with the Lord his God like the heart of David his father.
4
For the sake of David, the LORD my God granted him a lamp in Jerusalem, to raise up his son after him and to establish Jerusalem.
5
That which David did was right in the eyes of the LORD, and he did not turn aside from all that He commanded him all the days of his life, except for the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
6
And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life.
7
And the rest of the words of Abijam and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam.
8
And Abijam slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David, and Asa his son reigned in his place.
9
In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah.
10
And he reigned in Jerusalem for forty-one years, and his mother's name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom.
11
And Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, like David his father.
12
And he removed the sacred objects from the land and he turned aside all the idols that his ancestors made.
13
And he also removed Maacah his mother from being queen because she had made an idol for the Asherah, and Asa cut down her idol and burned it by the brook Kidron.
14
And the high places did not depart; only the heart of Asa was whole with the Lord all his days.
15
And he brought the holy things of his father and his holy things and the holy things of the house of the LORD, silver and gold and utensils.
16
And there was war between Asa and between Baasha king of Israel all their days.
17
And Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and built Ramah, so that he would not allow anyone to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.
18
And Asa took all the silver and the gold that remained in the treasuries of the house of the LORD and in the treasuries of the king's house, and he gave them into the hand of his servants. And King Asa sent them to Ben-Hadad, the son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, king of Aram, who dwelt in Damascus, saying.
19
I have sent you a bribe of silver and gold to break your covenant with Baasha king of Israel and to depart from me.
20
And Ben-Hadad heard from King Asa, and he sent his commanders of the army, who were with him, against the cities of Israel, and he struck Ijon and Dan and Abel Beth Maachah and all Chinneroth throughout all the land of Naphtali.
21
And it happened when Baasha heard, he ceased from the daughters of Ramah and dwelt in Tirzah.
22
And King Asa proclaimed to all Judah that there is no one clean, and they carried the stones of Ramah and the trees that Baasha had built, and King Asa built with them the hill fortifications in Benjamin and the watchtower.
23
And the rest of all the words of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities that he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? Only in the time of his old age did he become diseased in his feet.
24
And Asa slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David his father, and Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place.
25
And Nadab the son of Jeroboam reigned over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel for two years.
26
And he did what was evil in the eyes of the LORD, and he walked in the way of his father and in his sin by which he caused Israel to sin.
27
And Baasha son of Ahijah conspired against me in the house of Issachar, and Baasha struck him at Gibbethon, which belongs to the Philistines, and Nadab and all Israel were laying siege to Gibbethon.
28
And he died in the third year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned in his place.
29
And it came to pass, as he struck down all the house of Jeroboam, he did not leave any soul to Jeroboam until he had destroyed him, according to the word of the Lord that He spoke by the hand of His servant Ahijah the Shilonite.
30
Concerning the sins of Jeroboam, which he committed and which he caused Israel to sin by his anger, and which provoked the Lord God of Israel to anger.
31
And the rest of the words of Nadab and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
32
And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.
33
In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king over all Israel in Tirzah, and reigned for twenty-four years.
34
And he did evil in the eyes of the LORD and walked in the way of Jeroboam and in the sin that he caused Israel to sin.
