King James Version
Jeremiah • Chapter 10
1
Hear the word that the LORD has spoken concerning you, O house of Israel.
2
Thus said the Lord: Do not learn the way of the nations, and do not be dismayed by the signs of heaven, for the nations are dismayed by them.
3
For the statutes of the people are a vanity, for a tree from the forest is cut down, the work of the hands of a craftsman with a tool.
4
With silver and with gold, they will beautify it; with nails and with hammers, they will strengthen it, and it will not totter.
5
As a bramble they are, and they will not speak; they will not be lifted up, for they will not advance. Do not fear them, for they will not harm, and also they will not do good.
6
There is none like You, O Lord; You are great, and great is Your name in power.
7
Who does not fear you, King of the nations? For to you has come the fear; for among all the wise men of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is none like you.
8
In one, they will burn and be confounded; the correction of the worthless is a tree.
9
Silver refined from Tarshish shall come, and gold from Uphaz, the work of a engraver, and hands of a goldsmith, blue and purple shall be their clothing, the work of all wise men.
10
And the LORD God is truth; He is the living God and eternal King. From His wrath, the earth will tremble, and the nations will not be able to endure His anger.
11
If you say to them, "Your gods, which did not make the heavens and the earth, will perish from the earth and from under these heavens."
12
He makes the earth by his power; he prepares the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding he stretches out the heavens.
13
To the sound of His voice, the multitude of waters in the heavens, and He raises clouds from the ends of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain and brings forth the wind from His treasuries.
14
All people are burned with knowledge; every craftsman is ashamed of his idol, for it is a false thing and there is no spirit in them.
15
They are a mere breath, their deeds are falsehoods; at the time of their inspection they will perish.
16
Not like these is the portion of Jacob, for He is the Maker of all, and Israel is the tribe of His inheritance. The Lord of Hosts is His name.
17
Gather me from the land of your suffering; I sat as a dweller in the siege.
18
For thus says the Lord: Behold, I will call out to the inhabitants of the earth at this time, and I will distress them so that they may find.
19
Woe to me over my broken inheritance, my wound; and I said, "Indeed, this is sickness, and I will bear it."
20
My tent is destroyed, and all my ropes are cut; my children have gone out from me, and they are no more; there is no longer anyone to pitch my tent or to raise my curtains.
21
Because the shepherds have become foolish and have not inquired of the LORD, therefore they have not acted wisely, and all their flock is scattered.
22
A voice of rumor, behold, it comes, and a great shaking from the north to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a dwelling place of dragons.
23
I have known, O Lord, that it is not for man to direct his steps nor for a person to prepare his way.
24
Lord, you correct me, but in judgment; do not in your anger chasten me, lest you diminish me.
25
Pour out your wrath upon the nations that do not know you and upon the families that did not call on your name; for they have devoured Jacob and destroyed him and made his dwelling desolate.
