King James Version
Jeremiah • Chapter 32
1
The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which is the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar.
2
And then the army of the king of Babylon besieged Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was confined in the courtyard of the guard that was in the house of the king of Judah.
3
That which King Zedekiah of Judah sent to say, "Why do you prophesy saying, 'Thus says the LORD: Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall capture it.'"
4
And Zedekiah, king of Judah, shall not escape from the hand of the Chaldeans, for he shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall see eyes.
5
And Babel will carry away Zedekiah, and there he will be until I visit him, says Yahweh, for you will fight against the Chaldeans but you will not succeed.
6
And Jeremiah said, "The word of the Lord came to me, saying..."
7
Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle came to me, saying, "Buy for yourself the field that is in Anathoth, for you have the right of Redemption to buy it."
8
And Hanamel the son of my uncle came to me at the court of the guard and said to me, "Please buy my field that is at Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for you have the right of inheritance and the Redemption is yours; buy it for yourself." Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord.
9
And I will buy the field from Hanamel the son of my uncle, which is in Anathoth, and I will weigh out for him the money, seven shekels and ten pieces of silver.
10
And I will write in the book and I will seal and I will bear witness and I will weigh the silver on scales.
11
And I took the book of the covenant, the signed document of the commandments and the statutes, and the revealed.
12
And I gave the book of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, in the sight of Hanameel my uncle, and in the sight of the witnesses who signed the book of the purchase, before all the Jews who sat in the court of the guard.
13
And I will command Baruch in their sight, saying.
14
Thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel: To take these scrolls, this scroll of the deed, and the sealed scroll, and this open scroll, and place them in an earthen vessel so that they may last many days.
15
For thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel: "Houses and fields and vineyards shall yet be bought in this land."
16
And I prayed to Yahweh after I had given the scroll of the purchase to Baruch son of Neriah, saying.
17
Ah, Lord Yahweh, behold, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and your outstretched arm; nothing is too difficult for you.
18
He shows kindness to thousands and repays the iniquity of the fathers to their children after them. The great, mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is His name.
19
Great is the counsel and abundant the understanding which your eyes are opened to on all the ways of the sons of man to give to each man according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds.
20
That you have set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt until this day, and in Israel and among mankind, and you have made for yourself a name as it is today.
21
And you brought out your people, Israel, from the land of Egypt with signs and wonders, and with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm, and with great terror.
22
And you gave them this land, which you swore to their ancestors, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey.
23
And they came and took possession of her, and they did not listen to your voice and your warnings, and they did not walk in your law; all that you commanded them to do, they did not do. And you called upon them all this evil.
24
Behold, the roads have come to the city to capture it, and the city has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it because of the sword and the famine and the pestilence; and what you spoke has happened, and you see it.
25
And you said to me, "Lord Yahweh, buy the field for you with money and let the witnesses testify, and the city has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans."
26
And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying.
27
Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is anything too hard for me?
28
Therefore, thus says the LORD: Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the Chaldeans and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it.
29
And the Chaldeans came and fought against this city and set this city on fire and burned it and the houses that were on its rooftops to Baal and poured out drink offerings to other gods to provoke me to anger.
30
For the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah are only doing the evil in my eyes from their youth; for the sons of Israel are only provoking me with the work of their hands, declares the Lord.
31
Because my wrath and my fury were upon this city from the day that they built it and until this day to remove it from before my face.
32
Upon all the evil of the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah which they have done to provoke me, they, their kings, their leaders, their priests, and their prophets, and every man of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
33
And they turned their backs to me and not their faces, and they learned what they should learn in the morning, but they did not listen to take correction.
34
And they set their abominations in the house that is called by My name to defile it.
35
And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through to Molech, which I did not command them, and it did not come into my heart to do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.
36
And now, therefore, thus says the Lord God of Israel to this city that you say will be given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword and by famine and by pestilence.
37
Behold, I will gather you from all the countries where I have driven you in my anger and in my fury and in great wrath, and I will bring you back to this place and I will make you dwell securely.
38
And they shall be to me a people, and I will be to them a God.
39
And I will give them one heart and one way to fear Me all the days for their good and for their children after them.
40
And I will cut a covenant with them for an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn back from doing good to them, and I will put my fear in their hearts so that they do not turn away from me.
41
And I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land in truth with all my heart and with all my soul.
42
For thus says Yahweh: Just as I brought upon this people all this great evil, so I will bring upon them all the good that I am declaring to them.
43
And the field shall be bought in this land, which you say is desolate, without man and beast; it has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans.
44
Fields with silver they will buy and write in the book and seal, and the witness will be witnesses in the land of Benjamin and in the vicinity of Jerusalem and in the cities of Judah and in the cities of the hill and in the cities of the lowland and in the cities of the Negev, for I will restore their captives, says the Lord.
