King James Version
Isaiah • Chapter 28
1
Woe to the crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim, and to the fading flower of its beautiful glory, which is on the head of the fertile valley of those overcome with wine.
2
Behold, strengthen and be courageous for the Lord, like a torrent of hail, like a torrent of mighty waters sweeping, He laid waste to the earth by hand.
3
With feet they will trample the crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim.
4
And there will be a tangle of the beautiful glory of the deer, which is on the head of the fat valley, like its first fruits before the summer, which the seer will see before it is swallowed up in his hand.
5
In that day, the LORD of hosts will be a crown of glory and a diadem of beauty to the remnant of His people.
6
And to the spirit of judgment for the one sitting on the judgment, and to the mighty ones who turn back the battle at the gate.
7
And also these have erred through wine, and the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink; they are swallowed up by wine, they wander because of strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.
8
For all his tables are filled with vomit and filth, without any place.
9
Who teaches knowledge, and who understands a message? Those weaned from milk, taken from the breast.
10
For command to/command command to/command, line to/line line to/line, small there small there.
11
For with mocking of lips and with another tongue, he will speak to this people.
12
Which I said to them: "This is the resting place; let the weary rest here, and this is the place of calm; and I will not listen."
13
And the word of the LORD will be to them, "Command, command, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little," so that they may go and stumble backward and be broken and snared and captured.
14
Therefore, hear the word of the Lord, you men of lacon, rulers of this people who are in Jerusalem.
15
For you have said, "We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have an agreement; when the overflowing scourge passes through, it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge and have hidden ourselves in falsehood."
16
Therefore, thus says my Lord Yahweh: Behold, I lay in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; he who believes will not hurry.
17
And I will set justice for a line and righteousness for a plummet; hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and waters will overflow the hiding place.
18
And you will cover your covenant with death, and your vision of Sheol will not stand; a flowing scourge will pass through, and you will be for it a trampling.
19
When He passes through, He will take you, for in the morning, in the morning, He will pass in the day and in the night, and there will only be terror understanding the rumor.
20
For the interval is short, and the threat is narrow as one gathers together.
21
For as a mountain of breaches, the LORD will rise, as a valley in Gibeon, he will tremble to perform his strange act and to work his alien work.
22
And now, do not mock, lest your bonds be strong, for I have heard a complete and decisive decree from my Lord, Yahweh of Hosts, against all the earth.
23
Give ear and listen to my voice; pay attention and hear my words.
24
All day the plowman will plow, the sower will plant, and the ground will be leveled.
25
"Is it not like the chaff that the wind blows away, and like straw that the wind scatters, and like wheat that is put in its place and barley is signified, and spelt at the edge of its boundary?"
26
And he will punish him for the judgment of my God.
27
For it is not by a sharpened tool that the ear of grain is threshed, and the wheel of a cart does not turn upon the grain, for with a rod the ear of grain is threshed and the grain with a staff.
28
Bread shall be crushed, for it shall not be crushed forever, and the wheel shall turn over, and my horses shall not be crushed.
29
Also this came from the Lord of Hosts: He has made wonderful counsel; He has greatly increased wisdom.
