King James Version

Isaiah • Chapter 53

1 Who has believed our report, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 And like a sapling before me, and like a root from a dry land, he has no form and no beauty, and we saw him, and he had no appearance that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces, he was despised, and we did not esteem him. 4 Surely, he has borne our sicknesses and carried our pains; yet we considered him stricken, smitten by God and afflicted. 5 And he was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 All of us have gone astray like sheep; each of us has turned to his own way, and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He shall be brought near, and he will be silent, and he will not open his mouth, like a sheep to the slaughter; and like a ewe before her shearers, she is silent, and he will not open his mouth. 8 From the restraint and from the judgment taken, and who will speak on his behalf, for he is cut off from the land of the living; because of the transgression of my people, the stroke is upon them. 9 And he assigned the wicked a grave, and the rich in his death; for he had done no violence and there was no deceit in his mouth. 10 And the LORD was pleased to crush him; he has made him sick. If you make his life a guilt offering, he will see offspring, he will prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will succeed in his hand. 11 From the toil of his soul he shall see, he shall be satisfied; by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many, and their iniquities he shall bear. 12 Therefore I will divide out to him with the many, and he will divide the spoil with the mighty, because he poured out his soul unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors; and he bore the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors.
