King James Version
Isaiah • Chapter 9
1
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; those dwelling in the land of the shadow of death, light has shone upon them.
2
You have increased the nation; you have made great the joy. They shall rejoice before you like the joy in harvest, as they rejoice when they divide the spoils.
3
For the yoke of his burden and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian.
4
For all the noise of the enemy in tumult and the robe rolled in blood, it shall be for burning, fire shall consume it.
5
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
6
To increase the government and to peace there will be no end upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom to establish it and to support it with justice and righteousness from now and forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
7
A word sent by my Lord in Jacob and has fallen in Israel.
8
And the people, all of Ephraim and those who dwell in Samaria, will know with pride and with greatness of heart to say.
9
Bricks have fallen, and we will build with hewn stone; sycamores have been cut down, but cedars we will exchange.
10
And the Lord will strengthen the adversaries of Rezin against me, and He will perplex my enemies.
11
Aram from the east and the Philistines from behind ate Israel in every mouth; despite all this, his anger did not turn back, and his hand was still stretched out.
12
And the people did not return to the slaughter, and they did not seek the Lord of hosts.
13
And the Lord will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day.
14
An elder and a person showing favoritism is the head, and a false prophet is the tail.
15
And there will be those who are happy among this people, guiding and being guided.
16
Therefore, for my chosen ones, my lord will not rejoice, and he will not have compassion on his orphans and his widows, for all of them are corrupt and wicked, and every mouth speaks folly; despite all this, his anger has not turned back, and his hand is still stretched out.
17
For it will burn like a fire of wickedness; thorns and briers will it consume, and it will ignite in the thickets of the forest, and the pride of smoke will be humbled.
18
By the word of the LORD of Hosts, the earth was shattered, and the people were like fuel for fire; each man did not spare his brother.
19
And he will cut off on the right and hunger, and he will eat on the left and will not be satisfied; each man will eat the flesh of his own arm.
20
Manasseh against Ephraim and Ephraim against Manasseh; together they are against Judah. In all this, his anger did not turn back, and his hand is still stretched out.
21
Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh:
and they together
shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand
is stretched out still.
