King James Version

Mark • Chapter 10

1 And from there, rising up, he goes to the borders of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and crowds again come together to him, and as he was accustomed, he again taught them. 2 And they asked him if it is lawful for a man to divorce his wife, testing him. 3 But he answered them, "What did Moses command you?" 4 But they said, "Moses permitted to write a certificate of divorce and to send her away." 5 But Jesus said to them, "Because of the hardness of your hearts, he wrote you this commandment." 6 From the beginning of creation, He made them male and female. 7 For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, 8 And the two shall become one flesh; so they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate. 10 And again, in the house, the disciples were asking him about this. 11 And He says to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her." 12 And if she dismisses her husband and marries another, she commits adultery. 13 And they brought little children to him so that he might touch them; but the disciples rebuked them. 14 And when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, "Let the children come to me, do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God." 15 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will certainly not enter it. 16 And having embraced them, he blessed them, placing his hands upon them. 17 And as he was going out on the road, one ran up and, kneeling down to him, asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 18 But Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except one, God." 19 You know the commandments: Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and your mother. 20 But he said to him, "Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth." 21 But Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, "You lack one thing; go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." 22 But the man, becoming sad at the saying, went away sorrowful, for he had many possessions. 23 And Jesus, having looked around, said to his disciples, "How hard it is for those who have money to enter the kingdom of God." 24 But the disciples were amazed at his words. Jesus, however, answering again, said to them: "Children, how difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God;" 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God. 26 But they were greatly astonished, saying to themselves, "And who can be saved?" 27 And Jesus, looking at them, said, “With men this is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.” 28 Peter began to say to him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed you." 29 Jesus said, "Truly I say to you, no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the gospel, 30 If he does not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. 31 Many will be first who are last, and last who are first. 32 They were going up the road to Jerusalem, and Jesus was leading them, and they were amazed, but those following were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them the things that were about to happen to him. 33 For behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and will deliver him to the nations. 34 And they will mock him and spit on him and scourge him and they will kill him, and after three days he will rise again. 35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, approached him saying, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you." 36 And he said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?" 37 And they said to him, "Give us that we may sit, one on your right and one on your left, in your glory." 38 But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking; are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?" 39 And they said to him, "We are able." But Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink, you will drink, and the baptism that I am baptized with, you will be baptized." 40 But to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to give, but for those for whom it has been prepared. 41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant about James and John. 42 And Jesus, having called them, says to them: You know that those who seem to rule over the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 It is not so among you; but whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant. 44 And whoever wishes to be first among you will be a servant of all. 45 For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his soul as a ransom for many. 46 And they come to Jericho. And as he was going out from Jericho, along with his disciples and a large crowd, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the road. 47 And hearing that Jesus the Nazarene was there, he began to cry out and say, "Son of David, Jesus, have mercy on me." 48 And many warned him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me." 49 And Jesus stood and said, "Call him." And they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage, get up, he is calling you." 50 But he, having thrown off his cloak, jumped up and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus answered him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “Rabbi, let me recover my sight.” 52 And Jesus said to him, "Go, your faith has saved you." And immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.
