King James Version
Mark • Chapter 12
1
And he began to speak to them in parables: A man planted a vineyard, and placed a fence around it and dug a winepress and built a tower, and he leased it to vinedressers and went away.
2
And he sent to the laborers at the season a servant, to receive from the laborers some of the fruits of the vineyard.
3
And having taken him, they beat him and sent him away empty.
4
And again he sent to them another servant; and they beheaded him and dishonored him.
5
And he sent another; and that one they killed, and many others, some they beat and some they killed.
6
He had yet another, a beloved son; he sent him last to them, saying that they will respect my son.
7
But those farmers said to themselves, "This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours."
8
And having taken him, they killed him and cast him out of the vineyard.
9
What will the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the farmers, and he will give the vineyard to others.
10
You have not even read this scripture: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.
11
This was done by the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes.
12
And they sought to arrest him, but they feared the crowd, for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them. And leaving him, they went away.
13
And they send some of the Pharisees and the Herodians to him in order to catch him in a word.
14
And coming up, they say to him, "Teacher, we know that you are true and do not care about anyone, for you do not look at people's faces, but teach the way of God in truth; is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not? Shall we give or shall we not give?"
15
But he knowing their hypocrisy said to them, "Why do you test me? Bring me a denarius so that I may see it."
16
They brought it. And He said to them, "Whose image is this and the inscription?" They said to Him, "Caesar's."
17
But Jesus said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's." And they were astonished at him.
18
And the Sadducees come to him, who say that there is no resurrection, and they asked him, saying:
19
Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if someone's brother dies and leaves a wife but does not leave a child, his brother should take the wife and raise up offspring for his brother.
20
There were seven brothers: and the first took a wife, and dying did not leave behind any offspring.
21
And the second took her, and he died, not leaving seed, and the third likewise;
22
And the seven did not leave seed; the last of all, and the woman died.
23
In the resurrection, when they rise, of which of them will she be a wife? For the seven had her as a wife.
24
Jesus said to them, "You are mistaken because you do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God."
25
For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
26
But concerning the dead, that they rise, have you not read in the book of Moses at the bush how God said to him, 'I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob'?
27
There is no God of the dead, but of the living; you are greatly mistaken.
28
And one of the scribes, approaching, having heard them discussing, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, "What is the first command of all?"
29
Jesus answered that it is the first: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.
30
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
31
This is the second; You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.
32
And the scribe said to him, "Well said, teacher, you have spoken the truth that there is one and there is no other except him."
33
And to love him with all your heart and with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices.
34
And Jesus, seeing that he answered thoughtfully, said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And no one dared to question him any longer.
35
And Jesus answering said, teaching in the temple: How do the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?
36
David himself said in the Holy Spirit: The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand until I place your enemies beneath your feet.
37
David himself says, "The Lord said to him, 'And where is he his son?'" And the great crowd was listening to him gladly.
38
And in His teaching He said: Beware of the scribes who desire to walk in long robes and greet in the marketplaces.
39
and first seats in the synagogues and places of honor at feasts,
40
Those who devour the houses of widows and for a pretense make long prayers; these will receive greater condemnation.
41
And sitting opposite the treasury, he observed how the crowd was putting money into the treasury; and many rich people were putting in large amounts.
42
And a poor widow came and put in two small coins, which is a quadrans.
43
And having called his disciples, he said to them: Truly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those throwing into the treasury.
44
For all cast in from their abundance, but she from her poverty put in everything she had, all her living.
