King James Version

Mark • Chapter 13

1 And as he was going out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Teacher, look what sort of stones and what sort of buildings." 2 And Jesus said to him, "Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left here upon another that will not be thrown down." 3 And while he was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately. 4 Tell us when these things will be, and what will be the sign when all these things are about to be fulfilled. 5 But Jesus began to say to them, "See that no one leads you astray." 6 Many will come in my name saying, "I am," and will deceive many. 7 But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; it is necessary for these things to happen, but the end is not yet. 8 For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines; this is the beginning of birth pangs. 9 But you see yourselves; they will hand you over to councils and to synagogues, and you will be beaten, and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake as a testimony against them. 10 And it is necessary for the gospel to be preached first to all the nations. 11 And when they lead you away and deliver you up, do not be anxious beforehand about what you will say, but whatever is given to you in that hour, speak that; for you are not the ones speaking, but the Holy Spirit. 12 And brother will deliver brother to death, and father child, and children will rise against parents and will kill them. 13 And you will be hated by all for my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 When you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be, let the reader understand, then those in Judea should flee to the mountains. 15 Let not the one on the roof come down or enter to take anything out of his house. 16 And let not the one in the field turn back to take his cloak. 17 Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing in those days. 18 Pray that it may not happen in winter. 19 For there will be those days of tribulation such as has not occurred since the beginning of creation which God created until now and will never be. 20 And if the Lord had not shortened the days, no flesh would have been saved. But for the sake of the elect whom he chose, he shortened the days. 21 And then if anyone says to you, "Look, here is the Christ," or "Look, there," do not believe it. 22 For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, the elect. 23 But you see; I have told you everything beforehand. 24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light. 25 And the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. 27 And then he will send out his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the earth to the other end of heaven. 28 From the fig tree learn the parable: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, know that the summer is near. 29 So also you, when you see these things happening, know that it is near, at the doors. 30 Truly, I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things happen. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. 32 But concerning that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, except the Father. 33 Watch and be alert, for you do not know when the time is. 34 As a man going on a journey, having left his house and given authority to his servants, each one his work, and he commanded the doorkeeper to stay awake. 35 Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know at what hour the master of the house is coming, whether at evening or at midnight or at the crowing of the rooster or in the morning. 36 Do not let him come upon you suddenly and find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to all: Stay alert.
