King James Version
Mark • Chapter 14
1
But the Passover and the Unleavened Bread were after two days. And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by deceit and kill him.
2
For they were saying: "Not during the festival, lest there be a riot among the people."
3
And while he was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he was reclining, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive pure nard; she broke the jar and poured it on his head.
4
But some were indignant among themselves: "Why has this loss of the ointment occurred?"
5
For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor; and they were indignant at her.
6
But Jesus said, "Leave her alone; why are you bothering her? She has done a good work for me."
7
For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them, but you do not always have me.
8
What he had, he did; he hastened to anoint my body for burial.
9
Amen, I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the whole world, what she has done will be spoken of in remembrance of her.
10
And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray him to them.
11
And they, having heard, rejoiced and promised to give him silver. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.
12
And on the first day of the unleavened bread, when they were sacrificing the Passover, his disciples said to him, "Where do you want us to go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?"
13
And he sends two of his disciples and says to them, "Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him."
14
And wherever you enter, say to the householder, "The teacher says, 'Where is my guest chamber where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?'"
15
And he will show you a large upper room furnished; and there prepare for us.
16
And the disciples went out and came into the city and found as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
17
And when evening had come, he came with the twelve.
18
And while they were reclining and eating, Jesus said, "Truly I say to you that one of you will betray me, the one eating with me."
19
They began to be grieved and to say to him one after another, “Is it I?”
20
And he said to them, "One of the twelve, the one dipping with me in the dish."
21
For the Son of Man goes as it is written about him; woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed; good for him if that man had not been born.
22
And while they were eating, taking bread, he blessed it and broke it and gave it to them and said: Take, this is my body.
23
And having taken a cup and given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
24
And he said to them: This is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for many.
25
Truly, I say to you, I will no longer drink from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
26
And having praised, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
27
And Jesus says to them, "All of you will be scandalized, for it is written: I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered."
28
But after I have been raised, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.
29
But Peter said to him, "Even if all are made to stumble, yet not I."
30
And Jesus said to him, "Truly I say to you, today, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times."
31
But he spoke exceedingly; "If it is necessary for me to die with you, I will not deny you." Likewise, all said.
32
And they come to a place whose name is Gethsemane, and he says to his disciples, "Sit here until I pray."
33
And he took Peter and James and John with him, and he began to be greatly amazed and troubled.
34
And he says to them: My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here and stay awake.
35
And having gone a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
36
And he said: Abba, Father, all things are possible for you; take this cup away from me; but not what I will, but what you will.
37
And he comes and finds them sleeping, and says to Peter: Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not keep watch for one hour?
38
Stay awake and pray, so that you do not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
39
And again going away, he prayed the same word saying.
40
And again coming, he found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy, and they did not know what to answer him.
41
And the third comes and says to them, "Sleep now and rest; it is enough; the hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being delivered into the hands of sinners."
42
Arise, let us go; behold, he who is betraying me is near.
43
And immediately while he was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, came; and with him a crowd with swords and clubs from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44
And the one delivering him gave them a sign, saying, "Whomever I kiss, he is the one; seize him and lead him away safely."
45
And coming straight to him, he said, "Rabbi," and kissed him.
46
And they laid hands on him and seized him.
47
And one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.
48
And Jesus answered and said to them, "Have you come out as against a robber with swords and clubs to seize me?"
49
Every day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me; but that the Scriptures might be fulfilled.
50
And having left him, they all fled.
51
And a certain young man followed him, wrapped in a linen cloth over his naked body, and they laid hold of him.
52
But he, leaving the linen cloth, fled away naked.
53
And they led Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes gathered together.
54
And Peter followed him from a distance as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and he was sitting with the attendants and warming himself by the light.
55
But the chief priests and all the council sought evidence against Jesus to put him to death, and they found none.
56
For many were giving false testimony against him, and their testimonies were not alike.
57
And some, rising up, falsely testified against him, saying.
58
For we heard him saying, "Destroy this temple made by hands, and in three days I will build another not made by hands."
59
And their testimony was not even thus equal.
60
And the high priest stood up in the middle and asked Jesus, saying, "Will you not answer anything? What are these men testifying against you?"
61
But he kept silent and did not answer anything. Again the high priest asked him and said to him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"
62
But Jesus said, "I am, and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power and coming with the clouds of heaven."
63
But the high priest, having torn his garments, says: What further need do we have of witnesses?
64
You have heard the blasphemy; what do you think? And they all condemned him to be worthy of death.
65
And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to strike him and say to him, "Prophesy," and the servants received him with blows.
66
And while Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came.
67
And seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, "And you were with the Nazarene, Jesus."
68
But he denied it, saying, "I neither know nor understand what you are saying," and went out to the courtyard, and a rooster crowed.
69
And the maid, seeing him, began again to say to those present, "This is one of them."
70
But he again denied it. And after a little while those standing by said to Peter, "Truly you are one of them, for you are also a Galilean, and your speech is similar."
71
But he began to curse and swear that I do not know the man of whom you speak.
72
And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus had said to him, "Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times." And having broken down, he wept.
