King James Version

Mark • Chapter 9

1 And he said to them, "Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God having come with power." 2 And after six days, Jesus takes Peter and James and John, and brings them up to a high mountain privately. And he was transformed before them. 3 And his garments became shining, exceedingly white, such as no launderer on earth can whiten. 4 And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. 5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here, and let us make three shelters, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah." 6 For they did not know what to reply, for they had become afraid. 7 And a cloud came and overshadowed them, and there came a voice out of the cloud: This is my beloved Son, listen to him. 8 And suddenly, looking around, they saw no one anymore except Jesus only with themselves. 9 And as they were coming down from the mountain, he commanded them not to tell anyone what they had seen, except when the Son of Man rises from the dead. 10 And they held the word to themselves, discussing what it is to rise from the dead. 11 And they asked him, saying, "Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" 12 But he said to them, "Elijah indeed comes first and restores all things, and how it is written concerning the Son of Man that he must suffer many things and be treated with contempt." 13 But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they wished, as it is written about him. 14 And having come to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them and scribes arguing with them. 15 And immediately all the crowd, seeing him, were amazed, and running to him, greeted him. 16 And he asked them, "What are you discussing among yourselves?" 17 And one from the crowd answered him: Teacher, I brought my son to you, having a mute spirit. 18 And wherever it catches him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid; and I said to your disciples that they should cast it out, and they were not able. 19 And he answered them, saying, "O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I endure you? Bring him to me." 20 And they brought him to him. And when he saw him, the spirit immediately threw him into convulsions, and falling to the ground, he rolled about foaming. 21 And he asked his father, "How long ago has this happened to him?" And he said, "From childhood." 22 And often he cast him into fire and into water to destroy him; but if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us. 23 But Jesus said to him, "If you can, all things are possible for the one who believes." 24 Immediately crying out, the father of the child said, "I believe; help my unbelief." 25 But Jesus, seeing that a crowd was running together, rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again." 26 And having cried out and having convulsed greatly, he came out; and it became as if he were dead, so that many said that he had died. 27 But Jesus, grasping his hand, raised him up, and he stood up. 28 And when he entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, "Why could we not cast it out?" 29 And he said to them: This kind cannot come out in any way except by prayer. 30 And from there, going out, they were traveling through Galilee, and he did not want anyone to know. 31 For he was teaching his disciples and he was saying to them that the Son of Man will be handed over into the hands of men, and they will kill him, and having been killed, he will rise after three days. 32 But they did not understand the saying, and they were afraid to ask Him. 33 And he came into Capernaum. And being in the house, he asked them, "What were you discussing on the way?" 34 But they were silent, for they had discussed among themselves on the way who was the greatest. 35 And sitting down, he called the twelve and said to them: If anyone wants to be first, he will be last of all and servant of all. 36 And taking a child, he stood it in their midst, and embracing it, he said to them: 37 Whoever receives one of these children in my name receives me; and whoever receives me does not receive me but the one who sent me. 38 John said to him, "Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him because he does not follow us." 39 But Jesus said, "Do not hinder him, for no one who performs a miracle in my name will be able soon to speak evil of me." 40 For whoever is not with us is against us. 41 For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in the name that you are Christ's, truly I say to you that he will by no means lose his reward. 42 And whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it is better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea. 43 And if your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life maimed than with two hands to go away into hell, into the unquenchable fire. 44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 45 And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than to be thrown into hell with two feet. 46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 47 And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to be cast into Gehenna with two eyes. 48 Where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched. 49 For every fire will be salted. 50 Good is the salt; but if the salt becomes tasteless, with what will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.
