King James Version

Mark • Chapter 8

1 In those days, a great crowd being present and having nothing to eat, he called his disciples and said to them: 2 I have compassion for the crowd because they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. 3 And if I send them away hungry to their home, they will faint on the way; and some of them have come from far away. 4 And his disciples answered him, "Where will anyone be able to find enough bread here in the wilderness to satisfy these people?" 5 And he asked them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven." 6 And he instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground; and taking the seven loaves, he gave thanks, broke them, and gave them to his disciples to set before the crowd. 7 And they had a few fish; and having blessed them, he said, "And to set these aside." 8 And they ate and were filled, and they took up leftover fragments, seven baskets. 9 And they were about four thousand. And he dismissed them. 10 And immediately entering into the boat with his disciples, he came to the region of Dalmanutha. 11 And the Pharisees came out and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, testing him. 12 And sighing deeply in his spirit, he says, "Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation." 13 And having dismissed them, he again entered the boat and went away to the other side. 14 And they had forgotten to take bread, and they had not with them in the boat except for one loaf. 15 And he was warning them, saying: "Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod." 16 And they were reasoning among themselves that they did not have bread. 17 And knowing, he says to them, "Why do you reason that you do not have bread? Do you not yet perceive or understand? Is your heart hardened?" 18 Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember? 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up? They said to him, Twelve. 20 When He also fed the seven to the four thousand, how many baskets of fragments did you take up? And they said to Him, "Seven." 21 And he said to them, "Do you not yet understand?" 22 And they come to Bethsaida. And they bring to him a blind man and they beg him to touch him. 23 And taking hold of the hand of the blind man, he brought him outside the village, and spitting in his eyes, and laying his hands on him, he asked him, “Do you see anything?” 24 And having looked up, he said: I see the people as trees walking. 25 Then again he laid his hands on his eyes, and he looked intently and was restored and saw clearly everything. 26 And he sent him to his house, saying: Do not enter the village. 27 And Jesus went out with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples, saying to them, "Who do the people say that I am?" 28 And they said to him, saying that John the Baptist, and others Elijah, and others that he is one of the prophets. 29 And he himself asked them, "But who do you say that I am?" Answering, Peter said to him, "You are the Christ." 30 And he strictly ordered them not to tell anyone about him. 31 And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed and after three days rise again. 32 And he spoke the word boldly. And Peter, approaching him, began to rebuke him. 33 He turned and saw his disciples, and he reprimanded Peter, saying, "Get behind me, Satan, for you are not mindful of the things of God but of the things of men." 34 And having called the crowd together with his disciples, he said to them, "If anyone wants to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." 35 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and for the gospel will save it. 36 For what does it benefit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? 37 For what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 For whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this sinful and adulterous generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
