King James Version
Joshua • Chapter 20
1
And the LORD spoke to Joshua, saying.
2
Speak to the children of Israel, saying, "Give to yourselves the cities of refuge that I spoke to you by the hand of Moses."
3
To us shall be a refuge for the manslayer who strikes a soul unintentionally and without knowledge, and they shall be to you a refuge from the avenger of blood.
4
And he shall flee to one of these cities and stand at the entrance of the city gate and speak in the ears of the elders of that city his words, and they shall gather the city to him, and they shall give him a place, and he shall dwell with them.
5
And if the avenger of blood pursues him, they shall not deliver the murderer into his hand, because he struck his neighbor unintentionally, and he was not his enemy yesterday or the day before.
6
And he shall dwell in that city until he stands before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the high priest who is in those days; then the murderer shall return to his city and to his house, to the city from which he fled.
7
And they consecrated the sanctuary in Galilee on Mount Naphtali, and Shechem on Mount Ephraim, and Kiryat Arba, which is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah.
8
And beyond the Jordan, east of Jericho, they gave the city of Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain, to the tribe of Reuben; and Ramoth in Gilead to the tribe of Gad; and Golan in Bashan to the tribe of Manasseh.
9
These were the cities of refuge for all the children of Israel and for the stranger who dwells among them, to flee there, anyone who strikes a person unintentionally and does not die by the hand of the avenger of blood until he stands before the congregation.
