King James Version
Joshua • Chapter 6
1
And Jericho was tightly shut because of the children of Israel; no one went out and no one came in.
2
And the Lord said to Joshua, "See, I have given into your hand Jericho and its king, the mighty warriors."
3
And you shall surround the city, all the men of war, encircle the city once; thus you shall do for six days.
4
And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of the jubilee before the Ark, and on the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.
5
And it shall be, when you hear the sound of the horn of the jubilee, all the people shall shout with a great shout, and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall go up, each man straight before him.
6
And Joshua son of Nun called to the priests and said to them, "Take up the Ark of the Covenant, and let seven priests carry seven trumpets of jubilee before the Ark of the Lord."
7
And he said to the people, "Cross and surround the city, and let the armed men pass before the ark of the Lord."
8
And it came to pass when Joshua spoke to the people, and seven priests carrying seven trumpets of the jubilee before the Lord passed on and blew the trumpets, and the ark of the covenant of the Lord went after them.
9
And the trumpeter goes before the priests; they sound the trumpets, and the gatherer goes after the ark, going and sounding the trumpets.
10
And Joshua commanded the people, saying, "Do not shout, and do not let your voice be heard, and do not let a word come out of your mouth until the day I tell you, 'Shout!' Then you shall shout."
11
And the ark of the LORD turned around the city once and they came to the camp and camped in the camp.
12
And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the Lord.
13
And seven priests bear seven trumpets of the jubilee before the ark of the Lord, walking and blowing with the trumpets, and the armed men walk before them, and the rear guard walks after the ark of the Lord, going and blowing with the trumpets.
14
And they surrounded the city on the second day once, and they returned to the camp; thus they did for six days.
15
And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early at the dawn of the morning, and they went around the city in this manner seven times; only on that day they circled the city seven times.
16
And it was on the seventh time that the priests blew the trumpets, and Joshua said to the people, "Shout, for the LORD has given you the city."
17
And the city shall be a vow; it and all that is in it shall be for the Lord. Only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.
18
And you, only, shall keep yourselves from the devoted thing, lest you devote yourselves and take from the devoted thing, and set the camp of Israel for devotion, and bring trouble upon it.
19
And all silver and gold and utensils of copper and iron are holy to the Lord; the treasury of the Lord shall come.
20
And the people shouted, and they blew the trumpets, and it was when the people heard the sound of the trumpet that the people gave a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, and the people went up into the city, every man opposite him, and they captured the city.
21
And they devoted to destruction all that was in the city, from man to woman, from young to old, and to ox and sheep and donkey, by the edge of the sword.
22
And to the two men who were spying out the land, Joshua said, "Go to the house of the woman, the harlot, and bring out from there the woman and all that belongs to her, as you swore to her."
23
And the young men, the spies, came and brought out Rahab and her father and her mother and her brothers and all that she had, and all her relatives they brought out and laid them outside the camp of Israel.
24
And the city they burned with fire, and all that was in it; only the silver and the gold and the vessels of bronze and iron they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.
25
And Joshua kept alive Rahab the harlot and her father's house and all that belonged to her; and she dwelt in the midst of Israel to this day because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
26
And Joshua swore at that time, saying, "Cursed be the man before the Lord who rises up and builds this city, Jericho; with his firstborn he shall lay its foundation, and with his youngest son he shall set up its gates."
27
And the Lord was with Joshua, and his name was known in all the land.
