1 And it came to pass after many days, when the Lord had given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua was old and advanced in years. 2 And Joshua called all Israel, including the elders, the heads, the judges, and the officers, and he said to them, "I am old, I have come in the days..." 3 And you have seen all that the LORD your God has done to these nations before you, for the LORD your God is He who fights for you. 4 Behold, I have given to you the nations that remain as an inheritance for your tribes from the Jordan and all the nations that I have cut off, and the Great Sea toward the rising of the sun. 5 And the LORD your God will drive them out from before you and will dispossess them from your presence, and you will inherit their land as the LORD your God spoke to you. 6 And you shall be very strong to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, so that you do not turn from it to the right or to the left. 7 Do not come among these remaining nations with you, and do not mention the name of their gods, nor swear by them, nor serve them, nor bow down to them. 8 For if you cling to the LORD your God, as you have done to this day. 9 And the Lord has dispossessed before you great and mighty nations, and no man has stood before you until this day. 10 One man from among you will chase a thousand, for the LORD your God is the one who fights for you, as He has spoken to you. 11 And you shall be very careful for your souls to love the LORD your God. 12 For if you shall turn back and cling to the remnant of these nations that remain with you, and intermarry with them, and go in to them, and they to you. 13 You shall know that the LORD your God will not drive out these nations from before you, and they will be a snare and a trap for you, and a scourge on your sides and thorns in your eyes until you perish from this good land which the LORD your God has given you. 14 Behold, I am going today on the path of all the earth, and you will know with all your heart and with all your soul that not one word has fallen from all the good things that the Lord your God spoke concerning you; all have come upon you; not one thing has failed from among you. 15 And it shall be, as all the good thing that the LORD your God spoke concerning you has come upon you, so the LORD will bring upon you all the evil thing until He has destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you. 16 When you cross over the covenant of the LORD your God, which He commanded you, and you go and serve other gods and bow down to them, then the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you, and you will quickly perish from the good land which He has given you.
