1 And the heads of the fathers of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel. 2 And they spoke to them in Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, "The LORD commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to dwell in, and their pasturelands for our cattle." 3 And the sons of Israel gave to the Levites from their inheritance at the command of the LORD these cities and their pasturelands. 4 And the lot went out for the families of the Kohethites, and it was for the sons of Aaron the priest from the Levites from the tribe of Judah and from the tribe of the Shimonites and from the tribe of Benjamin by the lot of cities, thirteen cities. 5 And to the sons of Kohath who remain from the families of the tribe of Ephraim and from the tribe of Dan and from half the tribe of Manasseh, by lot, cities ten. 6 And the sons of Gershon, from the families of the tribe of Issachar and from the tribe of Asher and from the tribe of Naphtali and from half the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, by lot twelve cities. 7 To the sons of Merari, for their families, from the tribe of Reuben and from the tribe of Gad and from the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. 8 And the children of Israel gave to the Levites these cities and their pasturelands, as the Lord commanded through the hand of Moses by lot. 9 And they gave from the tribe of Judah and from the tribe of Simeon these cities which they will call by name. 10 And it was to the sons of Aaron from the families of the Kohathites, from the sons of Levi, for them was the first lot. 11 And they gave them the city of Arba, which is Hebron in the hill country of Judah, and the open land surrounding it. 12 And the field of the city and its villages were given to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as his possession. 13 And to the sons of Aaron the priest, they gave the city of refuge, Hebron, and its pasture land, and Libnah, and its pasture land. 14 And the remnant, and the pasture, and the ash, and the pasture. 15 And the chalon and the pasture and the Debir and the pasture. 16 And the eye, and the open land, and Jutta, and the open land, the house of Shemesh, and the open land of the cities, nine of these two tribes. 17 And from the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon and its pasture, Geba and its pasture. 18 The answers and the pasture and the Almón and land. 24 The cities of Aijalon and its pasture, Gath Rimmon and its pasture, four cities. 25 And half of the tribe of Manasseh is the town of Taanach and its pasture, and Gath Rimmon and its pasture, the two cities. 26 All the cities of ten and their outlying places for the families of the remaining sons of Kohath. 27 And to the sons of Gershon, from the families of the Levites, they gave from half the tribe of Manasseh the city of refuge for the murderer, Golan in Bashan, and its pasture lands, and Ashtaroth and its pasture lands, two cities. 28 And from the tribe of Issachar, its leader families, the remaining ones from the families of the Levites; and their lot was twelve cities. 41 All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel are forty-eight cities and their pastures. 42 These cities shall be city by city, and the suburbs of them shall be round about; so shall it be for all these cities. 43 And the LORD gave to Israel all the land that He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and settled in it. 44 And the Lord gave them rest all around, according to all that He had sworn to their ancestors, and no one stood against them from all their enemies; the Lord delivered all their enemies into their hand. 45 Nothing has failed of all the good thing that the LORD spoke to the house of Israel; all has come to pass.
