2 Chronicles • Chapter 10
1
And Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to make him king.
2
And it came to pass when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard, that he was in Egypt, having fled from the face of Solomon the king, that Jeroboam returned from Egypt.

And they sent, and they called to him, and Jeroboam came, and all Israel, and they spoke to Rehoboam, saying.
4
Your father made our yoke heavy, but now lighten the hard work of your father and the heavy yoke that he has placed on us, and we will serve you.

And he said to them, "Yet three days and you shall return to me," and the people went.

And King Rehoboam consulted the elders who had stood before his father Solomon while he was still alive, saying, "How do you advise to respond to this people?"
7
And they spoke to me, saying, "If it will be good for this people, and you desire it, then you shall speak to them good words, and they shall be your servants all the days."
8
And he abandoned the advice of the elders who advised him, and he consulted the young men who grew up with him and were standing before him.
9
And he said to them, "What are you advising? We will reply to this people that has spoken to me, saying, 'Lighten the burden that your father put on us.'"
10
And they spoke to him, the children who grew up with him, saying, "Thus you shall say to the people who spoke to you, saying, 'Your father made our yoke heavy, but you lighten it from upon us.' Thus you shall say to them, 'My little finger is thicker than my father's loins.'"

And now, my father has laid a heavy burden upon you, and I will add to your yoke. My father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.

And Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had spoken, saying, "Return to me on the third day."

And the king answered harshly, and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the elders.
14
And he spoke to them according to the advice of the young men, saying, "You shall make your yoke heavier, and I will add to your yoke; my father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions."
15
And the king did not listen to the people, for it was a turn of events from God to establish what the Lord had spoken by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

And all Israel, for they did not listen to the king, and the people returned to the king saying, "What portion do we have in David, and we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse? Each man to his tents, O Israel! Now see to your own house, David." And all Israel went to their tents.
17
And the children of Israel who dwell in the cities of Judah, and Rehoboam reigned over them.
18
And King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the tribute, and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, and he died. And King Rehoboam arose to flee in the chariot to escape to Jerusalem.
19
And Israel has sinned in the house of David until this day.
