King James Version

2 Chronicles • Chapter 17

1 And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place, and he strengthened himself over Israel. 2 And he gave strength in all the fortified cities of Judah, and he put governors in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa, his father, had captured. 3 And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the ways of David his father and did not seek the Baals. 4 For he searched for the God of my father and walked in my commandments and did not do like the deeds of Israel. 5 And the LORD established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah brought him a tribute, and he had wealth and honor in abundance. 6 And his heart was lifted in the ways of the Lord, and he also removed the high places and the Asherim from Judah. 7 In the third year of his reign, he sent to his officials to teach in the cities of Judah. 8 And with them were the Levites: Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shimiramoth, and Jonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob Adonijah the Levites; and with them were Elishama and Jehoram the priests. 9 And they taught in Judah and with them the book of the law of the LORD, and they went around in all the cities of Judah and taught the people. 10 And there was fear of the LORD upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, and they did not war against Jehoshaphat. 11 And from the Philistines they brought to Jehoshaphat a tribute and silver as a gift; also the Arabians brought to him flocks, seven thousand rams and seven hundred goats, seven thousand and seven hundred. 12 And Jehoshaphat went and grew strong until above, and he built in Judah fortified cities and cities of storage. 13 And there was much work for him in the cities of Judah, and the men of war, mighty warriors, in Jerusalem. 14 And these are their enrollments for the house of their fathers in Judah: the leaders of thousands, Adnah the commander, and with him mighty warriors, three hundred thousand. 15 And by his hand was John the chief, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand. 16 And by his hand, Amassiah ben Zechri, the volunteer to the Lord, and with him two hundred thousand mighty warriors. 17 And from Benjamin, a mighty man of valor, Eljada, and with him were the archers and shield bearers, two thousand. 18 And beside him was Jehozabad, and with him one hundred and eighty thousand valiant men. 19 These are the servants of the king besides what the king gave in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.
