1 And all the people of Judah took Uzziah, and he was sixteen years old, and they made him king instead of his father Amaziah. 2 He built Eilat and restored it to Judah after the king lay with his ancestors. 3 Uzziah was sixteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for fifty-two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jecoliah from Jerusalem. 4 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as all that his father Amaziah had done. 5 And it was to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God; and in the days of his seeking the Lord, God prospered him. 6 And he went out and fought against the Philistines and broke through the wall of Gath and the wall of Jabneh and the wall of Ashdod, and he built cities in Ashdod and among the Philistines. 7 And God helped him against the Philistines and against the Arabs, the inhabitants of Gur Baal and the Meunites. 8 And the Ammonites brought a tribute to Uzziah, and his name went as far as entering Egypt because he had become very powerful. 9 And Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate, and at the Valley Gate, and at the turning of the wall, and he fortified them. 10 And he built towers in the wilderness and he hewed many wells, for he had great livestock, and in the lowland and in the plain were farmers and vine dressers in the mountains and in Carmel, for he loved the land. 11 And there was to Uzziah a mighty army making war, going out in divisions by the number of their enrollment by the hand of Jehoel and Jehiel the scribe, and Maaseiah the officer, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king's captains. 12 All the number of the heads of the fathers for the mighty men of valor is two thousand and six hundred. 13 And by their hand, an army of three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, warriors in strength, to assist the king against the enemy. 14 And Uzziah prepared for them shields and spears and helmets and body armor and bows and stones for slinging. 15 And he made calculations in Jerusalem, a thoughtful plan to be against the towers and against the corners to fear the arrows and the large stones, and his name went out far because he was amazed at the help until he became strong. 16 And in his strength his heart became haughty until he acted corruptly, and he transgressed against the LORD his God, and he entered the house of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense. 17 And after him came Azariah the priest, and with him eighty priests of the Lord, valiant men. 18 And they stood against Uzziah the king and said to him, "It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD, for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense; go out from the sanctuary, for you have trespassed, and it is not for you to seek glory from the LORD God." 19 And Uzziah became angry, and in his hand was a censer to burn incense, and in his anger against the priests, the leprosy broke out on his forehead in the presence of the priests in the house of the Lord, beside the altar of incense. 20 And Azariah the priest, the chief, turned to him and all the priests, and behold, he was a leper in his forehead, and they hurried him away from there, and he also was thrust out because the Lord had struck him. 21 And Uzziah the king was a leper until the day of his death, and he dwelt in a separate house as a leper, for he was cut off from the house of the Lord; and Jotham his son was over the king's house judging the people of the land. 22 And the rest of the words of Uzziah, the first and the last, Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet wrote. 23 And Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of burial which belongs to the kings, for they said, "He is a leper," and Jotham his son reigned in his place.
