2 Chronicles • Chapter 22
1
And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah the younger son of Jehoram king in his place, because all the firstborn were killed by the band that came to the camp, and Ahaziah the son of Jehoram reigned as king of Judah.

Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem, and his mother’s name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri.

He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor to do evil.

And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, like the house of Ahab, for they were his counselors after the death of his father to destroy him.

Also by their counsel he went and joined Jehoram the son of Ahab, king of Israel, to fight against Hazael, king of Aram, at Ramoth Gilead, and the Arameans struck down Joram.

And he returned to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds that he received at Ramoth in his fighting against Hazael king of Aram. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to visit Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel because he was sick.

And from God was the defeat of Ahaziah to come to Joram; and when he came, he went out with Jehoram to Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab.

And it came to pass, as Jehu was judging with the house of Ahab, that he found the princes of Judah and the sons of the brothers of Ahaziah, who were serving Ahaziah, and he killed them.

And he sought Ahaziah, and they caught him, and he was hiding in Samaria, and they brought him to Jehu, and they killed him, and they buried him, for they said, "He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart," and there was no one in the house of Ahaziah to retain power for the kingdom.

And Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, saw that her son was dead, and she arose and spoke to all the seed of the kingdom to the house of Judah.

And Jehosheba, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him from among the king's sons who were being killed, and she put him and his nurse in a bedroom, and Jehosheba, the daughter of the king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, because she was the sister of Ahaziah, hid him from Athaliah, so that she did not kill him.

And it was with them in the house of God, hiding for six years, while Athaliah was reigning over the land.
