King James Version

2 Chronicles • Chapter 2

1 And Solomon counted seventy thousand men to bear burdens and eighty thousand men who quarried stone in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers over them. 2 And Solomon sent to Huram king of Tyre, saying, "As you did with David my father, and you sent him cedar trees to build a house to dwell in." 3 Behold, I am building a house for the name of the LORD our God, to dedicate it to Him, to burn before Him incense of spices and a regular arrangement of offerings for the morning and for the evening, for the Sabbaths and for the months and for the appointed times of the LORD our God, forever. This is for Israel. 4 And the house that I am building is great, for our God is greater than all the gods. 5 And who can restrain the power of his daughters, for the heavens and the heavens of heavens cannot contain Him, and who am I that I should build a house for Him, except to offer before Him? 6 And now send me a wise man to work with gold and silver and bronze and iron and purple and crimson and blue, and who knows how to engrave engravings with the wise men who are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father prepared. 7 And send to me cedar trees, fir trees, and algum trees from Lebanon, for I know that your servants know how to cut down trees of Lebanon, and behold, my servants are with your servants. 8 And to prepare for me abundant wood, for the house that I am building is great and wonderful. 9 And behold, for the woodcutters, for those who hew the trees, I have given wheat, wounds, to your servants, twenty thousand kor of wheat, and twenty thousand kor of barley, and twenty thousand batim of wine, and twenty thousand batim of oil. 10 And Huram king of Tyre said in writing and sent to Solomon, "Because the Lord loves His people, He has made you king over them." 11 And Huram said, "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who made the heavens and the earth, who has given to David the king a wise son, knowledgeable and understanding, who will build a house for the Lord and a house for his kingdom." 12 And now I have sent a wise man, knowing and understanding, to Huram my father. 13 The son of a woman from the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man skilled in working with gold, silver, bronze, iron, stones, and wood, in purple, blue, and fine linen, and in weaving all kinds of designs and devising every skill that would be given to him with your wise men and with the wise men of my lord David, your father. 14 And now the wheat and the barley, the oil and the wine that my lord said he would send to his servants. 15 And we will cut down trees from Lebanon, as you need, and we will bring them to you in rafts on the sea, and you will bring them up to Jerusalem. 16 And Solomon counted all the foreigners who were in the land of Israel after the census which his father David had taken, and there were found one hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred. 17 And he made from them seventy thousand bearers of burdens and eighty thousand stone cutters in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to supervise the people. 18 And he set threescore and ten thousand of them to be bearers of burdens, and fourscore thousand to be hewers in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people a work.
