King James Version

2 Chronicles • Chapter 14

1 And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God. 2 And he removed the altars of the foreign gods and the high places, and he broke the pillars and cut down the Asherah poles. 3 And he said to Judah to seek Yahweh the God of their fathers and to do the Torah and the commandment. 4 And he removed from all the cities of Judah the high places and the incense altars, and the kingdom was quiet before him. 5 And he built fortified cities in Judah because the land was quiet and there was no war with him in those years, for the Lord had given him rest. 6 And he said to Judah, "Let us build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars, for we have sought the Lord our God; we have sought Him and He has granted us rest all around." So they built and succeeded. 7 And Asa had an army of 300,000 who carried shields and spears from Judah, and 280,000 who carried shields and were archers from Benjamin; all these were mighty men of valor. 8 And Zerah the Cushite came out against them with an army of a thousand thousands and three hundred chariots, and he came as far as Mareshah. 9 And Asa went out before them and arranged a battle in the Valley of Zephathah, to Marashah. 10 And Asa called to the LORD his God and said, "LORD, there is none like You to help between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on You, and in Your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD our God, do not let man prevail against You." 11 And the LORD struck the Cushites before Asa and before Judah, and the Cushites fled. 12 And Asa and the people who were with him pursued them as far as Gerar, and the Cushites fell, and there was no one left alive among them, for they were broken before the LORD and before his army. And they carried off a great deal of plunder. 13 And they struck all the cities around Gerar because the fear of the Lord was upon them, and they plundered all the cities because there was a great spoil in them. 14 And also the tents of the livestock were struck, and they seized a multitude of sheep and camels, and they returned to Jerusalem. 15 They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
