1 And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David, and Jehoram his son reigned in his place. 2 And his brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah and Jehiel and Zechariah and Azariah and Michael and Shephatiah; all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat, king of Israel. 3 And he gave to them their father many gifts of silver and gold and valuables along with fortified cities in Judah, and he gave the kingdom to Jehoram because he was the firstborn. 4 And Jehoram rose up against the kingdom of his father, and he strengthened himself and killed all his brothers with the sword, and also some of the leaders of Israel. 5 Joram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. 6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as they did in the house of Ahab, for Ahab's daughter was his wife; and he did evil in the sight of the Lord. 7 And the LORD was not willing to destroy the house of David for the sake of the covenant that He made with David and as He had said to give to him and his sons all the days. 8 In his days, Edom rebelled under the hand of Judah, and they made a king over themselves. 9 And Jehoram passed by with his captains and all the chariots with him, and it was at night that he struck Edom, which surrounded him, and the captains of the chariots. 10 And Edom has rebelled under the hand of Judah until this day; then it will rebel against Israel in that time under his hand, for he has forsaken the LORD, the God of his fathers. 11 He also made high places in the mountains of Judah and he weighed those who lived in Jerusalem and turned away Judah. 12 And a letter came to me from Elijah the prophet, saying, "Thus says Yahweh, the God of your father David: Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father and in the ways of Asa king of Judah." 13 And she went in the way of the kings of Israel and committed adultery with Judah and with the inhabitants of Jerusalem like the adultery of the house of Ahab, and also you killed your good brothers from your family. 14 Behold, the Lord is striking a great plague among your people, and among your children, and among your wives, and among all your possessions. 15 And you will have many illnesses in your bowels until they go out of your bowels because of the disease for days upon days. 16 And the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines and the Arabs who are near the Cushites. 17 And they went up in Judah and they broke it, and they seized all the possessions found in the house of the king, and also his sons and his wives, and there remained not for him a son except for Jehoahaz, a small son. 18 And after all this, the Lord struck him in his intestines with an incurable disease. 19 And it happened over days, from days, and at the time of the harvest, two days went out from Ai with his sickness, and he died in grievous illnesses, and they did not do to him as they did to his father. 20 He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem; and he went without desire, and they buried him in the city of David, and not in the tombs of the kings.
