King James Version

Exodus • Chapter 14

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying. 2 Speak to the children of Israel, and they shall return and camp before Pi-Hahirot, between Migdal and the sea, before Baal-Zephon; they shall camp facing it by the sea. 3 And Pharaoh said to the children of Israel, "They are confused; they are trapped in the land; the wilderness has closed in on them." 4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will pursue them, and I will be glorified in Pharaoh and in all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD. And they did so. 5 And it was told to the king of Egypt that the people had fled, and the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was turned toward the people, and they said, "What is this we have done, that we have sent Israel away from serving us?" 6 And he restrained his chariot and took his people with him. 7 And he took six hundred chosen chariots and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over all of them. 8 And the Lord strengthened the heart of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he pursued the children of Israel, while the children of Israel were going out with a high hand. 9 And Egypt pursued them, and they overtook them camping by the sea, all the horsemen of Pharaoh and his chariots and his army at Pi Hahirot, in front of Baal Zephon. 10 And Pharaoh drew near, and the children of Israel lifted their eyes, and behold, Egypt was marching after them, and they were very afraid, and the children of Israel cried out to the Lord. 11 And they said to Moses, "Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What is this that you have done to us to bring us out of Egypt?" 12 "Is this not the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Let us alone and we will serve Egypt, for it is better for us to serve Egypt than to die in the wilderness'?" 13 And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid; stand firm and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today, for the Egyptians whom you see today, you will never see again forever." 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall be silent. 15 And the LORD said to Moses, "Why do you cry out to Me? Speak to the children of Israel, and let them go forward." 16 And you lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea, and it will split, and the children of Israel shall go into the midst of the sea on dry land. 17 And I, behold, I will strengthen the heart of Egypt, and they will come after them, and I will be glorified in Pharaoh and in all his army, in his chariots and in his horsemen. 18 And Egypt will know that I am the Lord when I am glorified in Pharaoh, in his chariots and in his horsemen. 19 And the angel of God who goes before the camp of Israel moved and went behind them, and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them. 20 And it came between the camp of Egypt and between the camp of Israel, and there was the cloud and the darkness, and it lit up the night, and this did not come near that all the night. 21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord drove the sea with a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 And the children of Israel came into the midst of the sea on dry land, and the waters were a wall to them on their right and on their left. 23 And the Egyptians chased, and all the horses of Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen came after them into the midst of the sea. 24 And it was in the morning watch, and the Lord looked down upon the camp of Egypt in the pillar of fire and cloud, and He troubled the camp of Egypt. 25 And he turned the chariot with difficulty, and he said, "Egypt is fleeing before Israel, for the Lord is fighting for them against Egypt." 26 And the Lord said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, and the waters will return upon Egypt, upon its chariots and upon its horsemen." 27 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength at the break of morning, while the Egyptians were fleeing toward it; and the Lord shook the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. 28 And the waters returned and covered the chariot and the horses, and all the army of Pharaoh that came after them into the sea; not one of them remained. 29 And the children of Israel went on dry ground in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. 30 And the LORD saved Israel on that day from the hand of Egypt, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31 And Israel saw the great hand that the LORD had done in Egypt, and the people feared the LORD and believed in the LORD and in His servant Moses.
