King James Version
Matthew • Chapter 21
1
And when they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples.
2
Saying to them, "Go into the village that is opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me."
3
And if anyone says to you anything, you will say that the Lord has need of them; and immediately he will send them.
4
This has happened so that what was spoken by the prophet would be fulfilled.
5
Say to the daughter of Zion: Behold, your king comes to you humble and mounted on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.
6
And the disciples went and did as Jesus had commanded them.
7
They brought the donkey and the colt, and they laid their garments on them, and he sat on them.
8
But the majority of the crowd spread their garments on the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them on the road.
9
And the crowds that went before him and those following cried out, saying: Hosanna to the son of David; Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
10
And when he entered into Jerusalem, all the city was shaken, saying: Who is this?
11
But the crowds were saying: This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth of Galilee.
12
And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were selling and buying in the temple, and He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those selling doves.
13
And he says to them: It is written: My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you make it a den of robbers.
14
And blind and lame people came to him in the temple, and he healed them.
15
But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did and the children crying out in the temple and saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they were indignant.
16
And they said to him, "Do you hear what these are saying?" But Jesus says to them, "Yes. Have you never read, 'Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies, I have perfected praise'?"
17
And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany, and there he stayed.
18
Early in the morning, as he was returning to the city, he became hungry.
19
And seeing a fig tree by the road, he came to it and found nothing on it except leaves only, and he said to it, "Let no fruit come from you forever." And the fig tree was immediately dried up.
20
And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, "How immediately did the fig tree wither?"
21
And Jesus answered them, "Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' it will happen."
22
And all things whatever you ask in prayer believing, you will receive.
23
And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, saying, "By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?"
24
And Jesus answered and said to them, "I will ask you one word, which if you tell me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things."
25
The baptism of John, where was it from? From heaven or from men? But they were reasoning among themselves, saying, If we say, From heaven, he will say to us, Why then did you not believe him?
26
But if we say, "From men," we fear the crowd, for they all have John as a prophet.
27
And they answered Jesus, saying, "We do not know." He said to them, "Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things."
28
What do you think? A man had two children. Coming to the first, he said: Child, go today and work in the vineyard.
29
But he answered, “I do not want to;” but later, having changed his mind, he went away.
30
And having approached the second, he said likewise; but the one answering said, "I, Lord"; and he did not go away.
31
Who among the two did the will of the father? They say, The first. Jesus says to them, Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes go ahead of you into the kingdom of God.
32
For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him; and you, seeing this, did not afterward change your minds to believe him.
33
Listen to another parable. There was a man who was a landowner, who planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower, and he leased it to farmers and went away.
34
But when the time of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the farmers to receive his fruits.
35
And the farmers took his servants; one they beat, another they killed, and another they stoned.
36
Again he sent other servants more than the first, and they did likewise to them.
37
Later, he sent his son to them, saying: They will respect my son.
38
But the farmers, seeing the son, said to themselves, "This is the heir; come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance."
39
And having taken him, they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
40
When, therefore, the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those farmers?
41
They say to him, "He will destroy those wretches badly and will lease the vineyard to other farmers, who will give him the fruits in their seasons."
42
Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?"
43
Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing its fruits.
44
And the one who falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will crush him.
45
And when the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they knew that he was speaking about them.
46
And seeking to seize him, they were afraid of the crowds, since they had him as a prophet.
