King James Version

Numbers • Chapter 11

1 And the people were like murmurers, bad in the ears of the Lord, and the Lord heard, and His anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed at the outskirts of the camp. 2 And the people cried out to Moses, and Moses prayed to the Lord, and the fire subsided. 3 And he named the place "Taberah" because the fire of the Lord burned among them. 4 And the mixed multitude that was among them lusted greatly; and the children of Israel also wept again and said, "Who shall give us flesh to eat?" 5 We remember the fish that we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic. 6 And now our souls are dry; there is nothing except for the manna before our eyes. 7 And the manna was like coriander seed, and its appearance was like the appearance of Bdellium. 8 The people wandered and gathered, and they ground in mills or crushed in mortars, and they boiled in pots and made them into cakes, and their taste was like the taste of fresh oil. 9 And when the dew comes down upon the camp at night, the manna will come down. 10 And Moses heard the people weeping by their families, each man at the entrance of his tent, and the anger of the LORD was greatly kindled, and in the eyes of Moses, it was evil. 11 And Moses said to the Lord, "Why have You done evil to Your servant, and why have I not found favor in Your eyes, to place the burden of all this people upon me?" 12 I have conceived all this people; if I have given birth to them, then you will say to me, "Carry them in your bosom, as a nurse carries the infant on the ground, which you swore to their fathers." 13 There is no flesh for me to give to all this people, for they will weep over me, saying, "Give us flesh to eat." 14 I cannot bear this entire people alone, for it is too heavy for me. 15 And if this is how you are going to do to me, kill me, please, if I have found favor in your eyes, and do not let me see my evil. 16 And the LORD said to Moses, "Gather for me seventy men from the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and their officers, and bring them to the tent of meeting, and let them stand there with you." 17 And I will descend and speak with you there, and I will take from the spirit that is upon you and put it upon them, and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, and you will not bear it alone. 18 And to the people you shall say, "Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat, because you have wept in the ears of the Lord, saying, 'Who will give us meat to eat? For it was good for us in Egypt.' And the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat." 19 You shall not eat for one day, nor for two days, nor for five days, nor for ten days, nor for twenty days. 20 Until the month of days until you go out from here, and it will be to you for a stranger, because you have rejected the Lord who is in your midst, and you have cried before me, saying, "Why has this happened to us that we have come out from Egypt?" 21 And Moses said, "Six hundred thousand footmen is the people that I am in the midst of; and you said, 'Give them meat that they may eat a month of days.'" 22 Sheep and cattle shall be slaughtered for them, and all the fish of the sea shall be gathered for them. 23 And the LORD said to Moses, "Is the hand of the LORD shortened? Now you will see whether my word will come to pass or not." 24 And Moses went out and spoke to the people the words of the Lord, and he gathered seventy men from the elders of the people and placed them around the tent. 25 And the LORD descended in the cloud and spoke to me, and He took some of the spirit that was upon me and gave it to the seventy elders; and when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied and did not cease. 26 And two men remained in the camp; the name of one was Eldad and the name of the second was Medad. And the Spirit rested upon them, and they were among those listed, but they did not go out to the tent, and they prophesied in the camp. 27 And the young man ran and told Moses and said, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp." 28 And Joshua the son of Nun, the minister of Moses, answered and said, "My lord Moses, stop them." 29 And Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord's people were prophets, that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!" 30 And Moses gathered to the camp, he and the elders of Israel. 31 And the spirit moved from the Lord, and it brought quails from the sea and let them fall upon the camp like the distance of a day's journey, and like the distance of a day's journey all around the camp, and about two cubits above the surface of the earth. 32 And the people rose up all that day and all that night and all the day of tomorrow, and they gathered the quail; he who gathered least gathered ten homers, and they spread them out for them all around the camp. 33 The flesh is still between their teeth before it is cut off, and also the Lord became angry with the people and the Lord struck the people with a very great plague. 34 And he called the name of that place the Graves of Desire because there they buried the people who were craving. 35 From the graves of lust, the people journeyed to Hatzrot, and they were in Hatzrot.
