King James Version
Numbers • Chapter 13
1
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying.
2
Send men and let them scout the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel; one man from each tribe of his fathers you shall send, every one a leader among them.
3
And Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran at the command of the LORD, all of them men who were leaders of the children of Israel.
4
And these are the names of the clans of Reuben: Shammua son of Zaccur.
5
For the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.
6
To the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
7
To the tribe of Issachar, it will be redeemed, the son of Joseph.
8
To the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun.
9
For the tribe of Benjamin, Geshem the son of Rapha.
10
To the tribe of Zebulun, Gadiel son of Sodi.
11
To the tribe of Joseph, to the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.
12
To the tribe of Dan, Ammi'el son of Gemalli.
13
To/for the tribe of Asher, a man named Michael.
14
To/for the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi son of Vophsi.
15
To the tribe of Gad, Guael the son of Maki.
16
These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to scout the land, and Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Joshua.
17
And Moses sent them to scout the land of Canaan and he said to them, "Go up this way in the Negev and ascend the mountain."
18
And you shall see the land, what it is; and the people that dwell in it: is it strong or weak, few or many?
19
And what is the land in which he dwells, is it good or bad, and what are the cities in which he dwells, are they in open camps or in fortified cities?
20
And what is the land, is it fat or lean? Is there a tree in it or not? Be strong and take from the fruit of the land, for the days are the days of the first ripe grapes.
21
And they ascended and they explored the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, to come to Hamath.
22
And they went up into the Negev and came to Hebron, and there were Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of the Anak. And Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.
23
And they came to the brook Eshcol, and they cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a pole between two of them, and from the pomegranates and from the figs.
24
To the place, it was called the brook Eshkol because of the cluster which the children of Israel cut down there.
25
And they returned from spying out the land after forty days.
26
And they went and came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the children of Israel in the wilderness of Paran at Kadesh, and they returned to them a report and to all the congregation, and they showed them the fruit of the land.
27
And they told him, saying, "We came to the land which you sent us, and indeed it flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit."
28
Only because the people who live in the land and the cities are very fortified, and we also saw the descendants of the Anak there.
29
Amalek dwells in the land of the Negev, and the Hittite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite dwell in the mountains, and the Canaanite dwells by the sea and along the Jordan river.
30
And Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, "Let us go up and take possession of it, for we are able to overcome it."
31
And the men who went up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.”
32
And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out to the children of Israel, saying, "The land which we passed through to spy it out is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature."
33
And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, from the giants; and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
