King James Version
Numbers • Chapter 8
1
And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying.
2
Speak to Aaron and say to him, "When you set up the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the lampstand."
3
And Aaron did so; he raised the lamps in front of the lampstand as the Lord commanded Moses.
4
And this is the work of the lampstand: it is made of hammered gold, from its base to its flowers; it is hammered work, as the appearance that the Lord showed Moses; so he made the lampstand.
5
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying.
6
Take the Levites from among the children of Israel and cleanse them.
7
And so you shall do to them to cleanse them from this sin; and they shall shave all their flesh, and they shall wash their garments, and they shall be cleansed.
8
And they shall take a young bull from the cattle and his grain offering of fine flour mixed with oil, and a second young bull from the cattle you shall take for a sin offering.
9
And you shall bring the Levites before the tent of meeting, and you shall gather all the congregation of the children of Israel.
10
And you shall bring the Levites before the LORD, and the children of Israel shall lay their hands on the Levites.
11
And Aaron shall wave the Levites before Yahweh from among the children of Israel, and they shall be for the service of the work of Yahweh.
12
And the Levites shall lay their hands on the heads of the bulls, and make one a sin offering and the other a burnt offering to Yahweh to make atonement for the Levites.
13
And you shall stand the Levites before Aaron and before his sons, and you shall wave them as a wave offering to the Lord.
14
And you shall separate the Levites from among the children of Israel, and the Levites shall be mine.
15
And after that, the Levites shall come to serve in the tent of meeting, and you shall cleanse them, and you shall wave them as a wave offering.
16
For they are given to me from among the children of Israel, under the Redemption of every womb, the firstborn of all the children of Israel, I have taken them for myself.
17
For I have consecrated every firstborn in Israel, both of man and of beast; on the day when I struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified them for Myself.
18
And I took the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel.
19
And I gave the Levites to Aaron and his sons from among the children of Israel, to perform the service of the children of Israel in the Tent of Meeting, and to make atonement for the children of Israel, and there will not be a plague among the children of Israel when they come near the holy place.
20
And Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of Israel did to the Levites according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did to them.
21
And the Levites shall cleanse themselves, and they shall wash their garments, and Aaron shall wave them as a wave offering before the Lord, and Aaron shall make atonement for them to purify them.
22
And afterward the Levites came to serve their service in the Tent of Meeting before Aaron and before his sons, as the Lord commanded Moses regarding the Levites; so they did to them.
23
And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying.
24
This is what belongs to the Levites: from the age of twenty-five years and upward, they shall come to serve in the work of the Tent of Meeting.
25
And from the age of fifty years he shall return from the service of the work and shall no longer work.
26
And you shall serve your brothers in the Tent of Meeting, to keep the charge and to do the work; thus you shall do for the Levites in their duties.
