Proverbs • Chapter 17
1
Better is a dry morsel and quietness with it than a house full of sacrifices with strife.

A wise servant will rule over a shameful son, and in the midst of brothers, he will share an inheritance.
3
The crucible is for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests hearts.
4
From evil, he gives heed to the lips of falsehood; deceit he listens to the tongue of trouble.

He who mocks the poor, insults his Maker; he who rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished.

The crown of the elders is the sons of sons, and the glory of children is their fathers.
7
It is not fitting for a fool to have a noble tongue; much less for a generous person to have a deceptive tongue.

A stone of Grace is the bribe in the eyes of its owners, and to all that it turns, it gives wisdom.

He who covers a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates close friends.
10
Under a reprimand of understanding, from the one who strikes a fool, he will be a hundred.

But a sinister one seeks evil, and a cruel messenger will be sent against him.

A bear encountering a man is better than a fool in his folly.

He who returns evil for good, evil will not depart from his house.

He who releases water is the beginning of strife, and before it is revealed, the contention is fierce.

The one who justifies the wicked and the one who condemns the righteous are both an abomination to the Lord.

Why is this in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom when there is no heart?

At all times a friend loves, and a brother is born for adversity.

A man lacking heart strikes his friend in front of a ravenous wolf.

He who loves wickedness loves strife; he who raises his door seeks destruction.

A perverse heart will not find good, and he who turns his tongue will fall into evil.

A fool gives birth to trouble for him, and his father will not rejoice.
22
A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Bribe from the lap of the wicked will take to pervert the paths of justice.
24
The face of the understanding of wisdom, and the eyes of a fool at the end of the earth.

Anger is to a father a foolish son, and a bitter remedy to his mother.

It is also not good for a man to strike nobles for righteousness.
27
He who restrains his words has knowledge, and he who is of a cool spirit is a man of understanding.
28
Even a fool, if he remains silent, is considered wise; he who shuts his lips is deemed discerning.
