King James Version

Proverbs • Chapter 25

1 These are also the proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah, king of Judah, copied. 2 The glory of God is to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter. 3 Heaven is high and the earth is deep, and the hearts of kings are unsearchable. 4 The gopher made silver from the cast and it went out to the refiner for a vessel. 5 The wicked will be in turmoil before the king, and his throne will be established in righteousness. 6 Do not glorify yourself in the presence of a king, and do not stand in the place of the great. 7 For it is good to say to you, "Go up; there is better than your being humbled in the presence of a noble one whom your eyes have seen." 8 Do not hurry to leave, lest you do something in the end that will cause harm to your neighbor. 9 Contend with your neighbor, but do not reveal another's secret. 10 Lest they be gracious to you, a listener, and your words will not return. 11 Golden apples in silver settings; a word spoken at the right time. 12 A gold ring and an ornament of fine gold; a wise reprover to an attentive ear. 13 Like a snowstorm on a harvest day, a faithful messenger refreshes; he brings back the soul of his lord. 14 Princes and the spirit, and there is no rain; no man should boast in a false gift. 15 With a long nose, a ruler is persuaded, and a soft tongue breaks a bone. 16 Honey you have found, eat enough, lest you be full and vomit it up. 17 Do not let your foot stray from your neighbor's house, lest you be satisfied and hate him. 18 A man who answers with a sharp sword and a sharp arrow is a false witness. 19 A tooth of a shepherd and a foot that is unsteady is a trust in a traitor in the day of trouble. 20 The garment is torn on a cold day; vinegar is poured on a wound, and song is sung over a bad heart. 21 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. 22 For you are coals that he cuts on the head, and the Lord will repay you. 23 The north wind will bring forth rain, and angry faces are a hiding tongue. 24 It is better to dwell on the corner of a roof than with a contentious woman in a house shared. 25 Cold waters to a weary soul, and good news from a distant land. 26 A spring that is blocked and a source of bitterness, the righteous is bent before the wicked. 27 Eating too much honey is not good, and seeking glory is not glory. 28 A city broken into has no wall; a man without restraint over his spirit.
