King James Version

Proverbs • Chapter 9

1 Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn her seven pillars. 2 She prepared a feast; she mixed her wine; she also set her table. 3 The young women will call out upon the heights of the city. 4 Who is simple? Let him turn in here. To him who lacks heart, she says. 5 Go to your food and drink the wine I have mixed. 6 Forsake the simple ones and live, and walk in the way of understanding. 7 A scoffer does not accept correction, but a wicked person receives rebuke. 8 Do not rebuke a scoffer, lest he hate you; rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. 9 Give to the wise, and he will become wiser; instruct the righteous, and he will add to his learning. 10 The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord, and knowledge of the holy is understanding. 11 For I will extend your days and add years to your life. 12 If you have become wise, you have become wise for yourself; and if you mock, you alone will bear it. 13 The wife of folly is a noisy one, she is simple and knows nothing. 14 And she sat at the entrance of her house on a throne of high places. 15 To call to those passing by the way, who make their paths straight. 16 "Who is simple, let him turn here; and as for him who lacks heart, she says to him." 17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. 18 And he did not know that there are healers there in the depths of Sheol.
