Proverbs • Chapter 26
1
Like snow in summer and like rain in harvest, so honor is not fitting for a fool.

Like a bird to wander, like a dove to fly, so a curse without cause will not come.

A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the back of fools.

Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him.

Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.

He who shortens his legs causes harm; he who sends forth words in the hand of a fool.

The fool's lips bring strife, and his mouth calls for blows.

Like a diamond in the gravel, so is honor given to a fool.

A chain has come up in the hand of a drunkard, and a proverb is in the mouth of fools.

Many are the mockers of all, and the scorner of the foolish, and the scorner of the transgressors.

Like a dog that returns to its vomit, a fool repeats his folly.

You have seen a wise man in his own eyes; there is more hope for a fool than for him.

The lazy man says, "There is a lion in the road; there is a lion in the streets."

The door turns on its hinge, and a sluggard on his bed.

The slothful hides his hand in the dish; it grieves him to bring it back to his mouth.

A wise lazy man is better in his own eyes than seven who can give an answer.

Holding on to the ears of a dog, passing by without being provoked over a dispute.

As the one who boasts, the archer shoots arrows and death.

So a man deceives his friend and says, "Am I not playing?"

In the absence of trees, a fire will be extinguished, and without a whisperer, strife will cease.

Charcoal for burning coals and wood for fire, and a contentious man for strife.

The words of the murmurer are like those who mutter, and they went down into the chambers of the belly.

Silver dross is covered on earthenware; the lips of flames are burning, and a wicked heart.

In my speech, a foe will be recognized, and in his midst, he will place deceit.

For he will show Grace; do not trust in his voice, for there are seven abominations in his heart.

Hatred covers itself with a weight; evil will be revealed in the congregation.

The pit that one digs will fall into it; and the stone that is rolled will return to him.

The tongue of falsehood hates the crushed, and a smooth mouth will create separation.
