King James Version

Proverbs • Chapter 27

1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. 2 Let a stranger praise you, and not your own mouth; a foreigner, and not your own lips. 3 The weight of a stone and the burden of sand, and the anger of a fool is heavier than them both. 4 Cruelty of wrath and overflowing anger; and who can stand before jealousy? 5 Better is an openly given rebuke than hidden love. 6 Wounds from a friend are faithful, but the kisses of an enemy are excessive. 7 A satisfied soul will trample on honey, but a hungry soul will taste all bitter things. 8 Like a wandering bird from its nest, so is a man who wanders from his place. 9 Oil and incense make the heart glad, and sweetness is from the counsel of the soul. 10 Do not abandon your neighbor and your brother's house on the day of your calamity; better is a close neighbor than a distant brother. 11 Wise is my son, and he will make my heart glad, and I will answer my adversaries. 12 The cunning saw evil, the simple were hidden, they passed by and were punished. 13 Take his garment, for he has given surety for a stranger, and for a foreign woman he has pledged. 14 Bless the friend in a loud voice in the early morning; a curse will be considered to him. 15 A flood falls on a gloomy day, and a contentious woman is like a worn-out garment. 16 The ostrich has hidden the spirit and the oil of his right hand will be called. 17 Iron with iron, and a man with the face of his friend. 18 He who guards the fig will eat its fruit, and he who keeps his master will be honored. 19 Like water reflects a face, so a heart reflects a heart. 20 Sheol and destruction, never are they satisfied; and the eyes of man are never satisfied. 21 A furnace for silver and a smelter for gold, and a man is tested by his praise. 22 If you crush the fool in the mortar among the bruised, his folly will not depart from me. 23 You shall surely know the face of your flock; set your heart upon the herds. 24 For not forever is strength, and if a crown for generation and generation. 25 The grass has withered, and the green herb has appeared, and the herbs of the mountains have been gathered. 26 "Sheep for your clothing and the price of a field of goats." 27 And enough goat's milk for your bread and life for your young men.
