King James Version

Proverbs • Chapter 7

1 In your heart, keep my words and my commandments, treasure them with you. 2 Keep My commandments and live, and My teaching as the pupil of your eye. 3 Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call understanding your relative. 5 "Guard yourself from a strange woman, from a foreigner whose words are smooth." 6 For at my window of my house, I looked through my lattice. 7 And I saw suddenly, I understood among the children, a youth lacking heart. 8 He will pass through the market near her, and the way to her house he will walk. 9 At twilight in the evening of the day, in the pupil of the night and darkness. 10 And behold, a woman to meet him, dressed as a harlot and with a guarded heart. 11 Her tumult is she, and the ruler in her house shall not let her feet rest. 12 Once in the street, once in the squares, and at every corner, you will lie in wait. 13 And she held onto him and kissed him boldly, and she said to him. 14 The sacrifices of peace offerings are upon me; today I have fulfilled my vows. 15 Therefore, I went out to meet you, to seek your face, and I found you. 16 I have trampled many carpets, I have made my bed for the strong ones of Egypt. 17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. 18 Let us enjoy love until the morning; let us delight in the lovers. 19 For there is no man in his house who has gone on the way from afar. 20 A bundle of silver he took in his hand for the day his throne would come to his house. 21 You have caused her to stray in the abundance of her taking; in a part of her lips, she will cast us away. 22 The fool walks after the suddenness; like a bull to the slaughter, and like a fool to correction. 23 Until he will hasten like a heavy arrow, like a bird to the trap, and he did not know that it is for his life. 24 And now, sons, listen to me and pay attention to the words of my mouth. 25 Do not stray onto her paths; do not wander in her ways. 26 For many have been slain by her, and all who are slain by her are mighty. 27 The paths of Sheol are descending to the chambers of death.
