King James Version
Deuteronomy • Chapter 17
1
Do not sacrifice to the LORD your God an ox or a sheep that has a blemish; for it is an abomination to the LORD your God.
2
If there is found among you in one of your gates which the LORD your God is giving you a man or a woman who does evil in the sight of the LORD your God to transgress His covenant.
3
And he went and served other gods and bowed down to them, and to the sun or to the moon or to all the host of heaven that I did not command.
4
And it will be told to you, and you will hear, and you will inquire well, and behold, the truth is certain, the abomination has been done in Israel.
5
And you shall bring out the man or the woman who has done this wicked thing to your gates, the man or the woman, and you shall stone them with stones, and they shall die.
6
By the testimony of two or three witnesses, the one who is to be put to death shall be put to death; he shall not be put to death by the testimony of one witness.
7
Your hand shall be upon the witnesses first to put him to death, and the hand of all the people last, and you shall remove the evil from your midst.
8
For if a matter is too wondrous for you concerning judgment, between blood and blood, between law and law, and between stroke and stroke, matters of dispute in your gates, then you shall rise and go up to the place which the LORD your God will choose.
9
And you shall come to the priests, the Levites, and to the judge who will be in those days, and you shall inquire, and they shall tell you the word of the judgment.
10
And you shall act according to the word that they tell you from the place that He will choose, and you shall guard to do according to all that they instruct you.
11
According to the law that they teach you and according to the judgment that they tell you, you shall do; you shall not turn aside from the word that they tell you, right or left.
12
And the man who acts presumptuously by not listening to the priest who stands to serve there before the LORD your God or to the judge, that man shall die, and you shall purge the evil from Israel.
13
And all the people will hear and they will be afraid, and they will no longer act presumptuously.
14
When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you possess it and dwell in it, you will say, "I will set a king over me like all the nations around me."
15
You shall surely set a king over you whom the Lord your God chooses from among your brothers; you shall not set a foreign man over you who is not your brother.
16
Only he shall not multiply horses for himself, and he shall not bring back the people to Egypt to multiply horses; for the LORD has said to you, "You shall not return that way again."
17
And he shall not multiply wives for himself, and his heart shall not turn away; and silver and gold he shall not multiply for himself very much.
18
And it shall be when he sits on the throne of his kingdom that he shall write for himself a copy of this law on a scroll in front of the priests the Levites.
19
And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes to do them.
20
To prevent his heart from being lifted above his brothers and to not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or to the left, in order that he may prolong his days upon his kingdom, he and his sons in the midst of Israel.
