King James Version

Ezekiel • Chapter 16

1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying. 2 Son of man, declare to Jerusalem her abominations. 3 And you shall say, "Thus says my Lord Yahweh to Jerusalem: Your sellers and your children are from the land of the Canaanite, your father is the Amorite and your mother is the Hittite." 4 And your birth pains on your birthday did not tear you, and in water you were not washed for your cleanliness, and the salt was not rubbed on you, and you were not swaddled. 5 No eye spared for you to do to you one of these for mercy upon you, and you were cast out into the face of the field in the shedding of your blood on the day of your birth. 6 And I will pass over you and I will see you struggling in your blood, and I will say to you in your blood, "Live," and I will say to you in your blood, "Live." 7 I have given you a thousand like the growth of the field, and you have multiplied and grown, and you have entered into adornments; your breasts are firm, and your hair has grown, and you are naked and bare. 8 And I will pass over you and I will see you, and behold, your time has come, the time of lovers, and I will spread my wings over you and I will cover your nakedness, and I will swear to you, and I will come into a covenant with you, declares my Lord Yahweh, and you shall be mine. 9 And I will wash you with water, and I will wash away your blood from upon you, and I will anoint you with oil. 10 And I will dress you in embroidered garments, and I will put sandals on you of leather, and I will bind you with fine linen, and I will cover you with silk. 11 And I will give you a crown, and I will give bracelets upon your hands and a necklace upon your neck. 12 And I will give a ring on your nose and earrings on your ears and a crown of glory on your head. 13 And you adorned yourself with gold and silver, and your garments were fine linen and purple, and I ate honey and oil; you were exceedingly beautiful and you prospered to reign. 14 And your name will go out among the nations because of your beauty, for it is perfect in the glory that I have placed upon you, says the Lord God. 15 And you trusted in your beauty and played the harlot because of your name, and you poured out your fornications on every passerby. 16 And you took your clothes and made for yourself high places and played the harlot upon them; they came not, and it will not be. 17 And you took the vessels of your beauty from the gold and the silver that I gave to you and made for yourself images of male and played the harlot with them. 18 And you took your embroidered garments and covered them, and I gave oil and incense before them. 19 And the bread which I gave you, fine flour and oil and honey, I fed you, and I set it before them for a pleasant aroma, and it was the saying of my Lord Yahweh. 20 And you took your sons and your daughters, whom you bore to me, and you sacrificed them to eat the least of your whoredoms. 21 And you shall slaughter my sons and give them in passing to them. 22 And all your abominations and your whoredoms, you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, and you were rolling in your blood. 23 And it came to pass after all your wickedness, woe, woe to you, declares the Lord Yahweh. 24 And you built a tower for yourself, and you made a height in every street. 25 To every head of the way, you built Ramah, and you turned your beauty, and you spread your legs to every passerby, and you multiplied your whoredoms. 26 And you engaged in promiscuity with the sons of Egypt, your neighbors, great in flesh, and you increased your harlotry to provoke me to anger. 27 And behold, I have stretched out my hand against you and I will cut off your statute and I will give you into the hands of your enemies, the daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of your ways of promiscuity. 28 And you played the harlot with the sons of Assyria, not being satisfied, and you played the harlot, and you were not satisfied. 29 And you increased your prostitution to the land of Canaan, the Chaldeans, and even in this you were not satisfied. 30 What anguish is in your heart, declares the Lord God, in doing all these things, the work of a woman who is controlled by a harlot? 31 In your daughters' pride, I made a scene in every street and I was not like a harlot to flaunt my healing. 32 The woman who commits adultery with another man shall be taken. 33 To all the lovers they will give a gift, and you have given your gifts to all your lovers, and you have summoned them to come to you from around your promiscuity. 34 And you shall be a reproach among women in your harlotries, and after you no one shall be sought, and you shall not give a bride-price, and a bride-price shall not be given to you, and you shall be a reproach. 35 Therefore, hear the word of the Lord, you harlot. 36 Thus says the Lord God: Because you have poured out your copper and uncovered your nakedness in your harlotries with your lovers and on all your abominable idols, and because of the blood of your children which you have given to them. 37 Therefore, behold, I will gather all your lovers with whom you have been pleased, and all whom you have loved against all whom you have hated, and I will gather them against you from all around, and I will expose your nakedness to them, and they will see all your nakedness. 38 And I will judge you with the judgments of adulteresses and with those who shed blood, and I will give you blood of wrath and jealousy. 39 And I will put you into their hand, and they will destroy your towers, and they will strip you of your garments, and they will take your beautiful vessels and leave you naked and bare. 40 And a congregation will rise up against you and they will stone you with stones and will pierce you with their swords. 41 And they will burn your houses in fire, and they will make judgments in you before many women, and I will cause you to cease from being a harlot, and you will no longer give your payments. 42 And I will place my anger upon you, and my jealousy will depart from you, and I will be quiet and will not be angry anymore. 43 Because you did not remember the days of your youth and you were troubled by all these things, I also set your path before you, says the Lord God, and I did not commit the abomination against all your detestable practices. 44 Behold, all who rule over you will rule, saying, "Like a mother in her midst." 45 Your mother’s daughter is an avenger of her and her sons, and your sister, your sister, who those men avenged, and their sons, your mother is a Hittite and your father is an Amorite. 46 And your elder sister Samaria, she is, and her daughters, who dwell to your left; and your younger sister who dwells to your right is Sodom and her daughters. 47 And you did not walk in their ways, and in their abominations I acted very little, and I destroyed from you in all your paths. 48 As I live, declares Adonai Yahweh, if your sister Sodom has done as you and your daughters have done. 49 Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: pride, abundance of food, and prosperous ease were hers and her daughters, but she did not strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. 50 And you shall be lifted up, and you shall make an abomination before me, and I will remove them as I have seen. 51 And Samaria, like half of your sins, did not sin, and you increased your abominations from them, and you justified your sister, your sister, in all your abominations which I did. 52 Also you, lift your shame, which you prayed for your sister in your sins, for you have become guilty from them; and also you be ashamed and lift your shame in your righteousness, your sisters. 53 And I will return their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and its daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and its daughters, and the captivity of your captivity in their midst. 54 In order that you may bear your shame and be humiliated by all that you have done in comforting them. 55 And your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, will return to their former state, and Samaria and her daughters will return to their former state, and you and your daughters will return to your former state. 56 And Sodom was not your sister, to be called by your name in the day of your pride. 57 Before your wickedness is revealed, like the time of the disgrace of the daughters of Aram and all around them, the daughters of the Philistines, who mock you from all around. 58 I have borne your sin and your abominations, says the Lord. 59 For thus says my Lord, Yahweh, and I will do to you as you have done, because you have despised the oath to break the covenant. 60 And I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish for you an everlasting covenant. 61 And you will remember your ways, and you will be ashamed when you take your older sisters to the younger ones, and I will give them to you for daughters and not by your covenant. 62 And I will establish My covenant with you, and you will know that I am the Lord. 63 So that you will remember and be ashamed, and there will no longer be an open mouth before you due to your shame, when I make atonement for you for all that you have done, declares Lord Yahweh.
