Ezekiel • Chapter 40

1 In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, in the tenth month, in the fourteenth year after the city was struck down, on that very day the hand of the Lord was upon me, and He brought me there. 2 In the visions of God, He brought me to the land of Israel and set me on a very high mountain, and upon it was like the building of a city from the south. 3 And he brought me there, and behold, a man whose appearance was like the appearance of bronze, and a measure line of flax was in his hand, and he stood at the gate. 4 And he spoke to me, "Son of man, see with your eyes and hear with your ears, and set your heart on all that I show you, for you were brought here in order to see this; tell all that you see to the house of Israel." 5 And behold, there is a wall outside the house all around, and in the hand of the man was a measuring line of six cubits and a handbreadth, and he measured the width of the building; he measured one, and the height he measured one. 6 And he came to the gate which faced east, and he went up by its steps, and he stood at the threshold of the gate: one cane was wide, and one threshold was one cane wide. 7 And the length of one beam shall be ten cubits, and the width of one beam shall be one cubit, and between the beams shall be five cubits, and the threshold of the door from the side of the hall of the door from the house shall be one beam. 8 And he stood at the threshold of the house, a single cane. 9 And he stood at the portico of the gate eight cubits, and at its posts two cubits, and the portico of the gate was from the house. 10 And the gate will come by the way of the east, three from here and three from there, one measure for the three of them, and one measure for the elms from here and from there. 11 And he measured the width of the entrance of the gate ten cubits, and the length of the gate twelve cubits. 12 And the boundary before the altar shall be one cubit, and one cubit shall be the boundary from here, and the altar shall be six cubits from here and six cubits from there. 13 And he measured the gate from the roof of the chamber to the roof, its width twenty-five cubits, a door opposite the door. 14 And he made the pillars ninety feet, and to the pillar of the courtyard of the gate all around. 15 And on the face of the gate of the entrance, upon the face of the hall of the inner gate, fifty cubits. 16 And windows that were closed to the halls and to their sides, inward to the gate all around, and so also to the alcoves, and windows all around inward, and to the palm tree. 17 And he brought me to the outer courtyard, and behold, there were chambers and pavement made for the courtyard around, thirty chambers toward the pavement. 18 And the paving to the shoulder of the gates, opposite the length of the gates, the lower paving. 19 And Roshav stood at the front of the lower gate in front of the inner courtyard, one hundred cubits from the east and the north. 20 And the gate which is in front of the way of the north to the outer courtyard, measured its length and its width. 21 And the height was three cubits, and the width was five cubits and twenty cubits. It was like the measure of the first gate, fifty cubits long and five cubits wide. 22 And his windows, and my windows, and his elms, and my elms, and his palms, and my palms, according to the measure of the gate that faces the east, and they shall go up by seven steps, and his oaks and my oaks before them. 23 And the gate to the inner courtyard was opposite the northern gate and the eastern, and he measured from gate to gate a hundred cubits. 24 And they led me on the way to the south, and behold, there was a gate on the way to the south, and they measured its sides according to these measurements. 25 And the windows were in it, and the pillars, and around the pillars were windows like these windows, fifty cubits in length, and the width was five and twenty cubits. 26 And seven ascensions, my offerings, and them, and my lambs before them, and will be for him one from here, and one from here to the ram, my rams. 27 And the gate to the inner courtyard was toward the south, and he stood from the gate to the gate toward the south, a hundred cubits. 28 And he brought me to the inner courtyard by the south gate, and he stood at the south gate according to these measurements. 29 And they came, and to me, and to the trees, and to my trees, and to the measures of these, and windows for him and to the trees, and to my trees, all around, fifty cubits long and twenty and five cubits wide. 30 And the curtains all around the length were five and twenty cubits, and the width was five cubits. 31 And to Elam, and to the outer courtyard, and to the palm trees, and to the oaks, and eight steps above it, steps. 32 And He brought me to the inner court by the way of the east, and He stood at the gate according to these measurements. 33 And the measurements of these were, for the windows to him and to Elam, around Elam, five cubits long and twenty cubits wide. 34 And I will go to the outer courtyard, and palm trees will be towards me, from there and from there, and eight steps above. 35 And He brought me to the northern gate and measured it according to these measurements. 36 Build for me a house, and windows for it all around, the length fifty cubits and the width twenty cubits. 37 And to me, to the outer courtyard, and palms are toward me from here and from there, and eight steps ascend from me, steps to my ascension. 38 And to the dwelling and its opening at the oaks of the gates, there they will splash the burnt offering. 39 But at the gate there are two tables, one here and two tables there, to slaughter the burnt offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering. 40 And to the shoulder from the outside of the altar, to the entrance of the northern gate, two tables; and to the shoulder of the other side which is to the hall of the gate, two tables. 41 Four tables from here and four tables from here at the shoulder of the gate, eight tables by them shall be slaughtered. 42 And four tables for the offering of hewn stone, the length of one cubit and a half, and the width of one cubit and a half, and the height of one cubit, to place them, and they shall lay the utensils with which they will slaughter the offering on them and the sacrifice. 43 And the lips are a hand's breadth prepared in the house all around, and to the tables with the flesh of the sacrifice. 44 And from outside to the inner gate, to dwell the guards in the inner courtyard which is toward the shoulder of the north gate, and their faces are toward the way of the south, one toward the shoulder of the east gate, facing the way of the north. 45 And he spoke to me, "This is the chamber that faces the way of the south for the priests who keep watch over the duty of the house." 46 And the chamber that faces the way of the north is for the priests who guard the duty of the altar; they are the sons of Zadok, who draw near from the sons of Levi to serve the Lord. 47 And he measured the courtyard, its length one hundred cubits and its width one hundred cubits, square; and the altar was before the house. 48 And He brought me to the hall of the house, and it stood to the hall five cubits from here and five cubits from there, and the width of the gate was three cubits from here and three cubits from there. 49 The length of the hall is twenty cubits and the width is ten cubits, and there are steps that ascend to it, and columns toward the pillars, one from here and one from there.
