King James Version

Ezekiel • Chapter 8

1 And it happened in the sixth year, in the sixth month, on the fifth of the month, I was sitting in my house and the elders of Judah were sitting before me, and the hand of my Lord Yahweh fell upon me there. 2 And I looked, and behold, the likeness of a fire like the appearance of the waist; and downward from the appearance of the waist there was fire, and upward from the appearance of the waist there was the likeness of brightness like the appearance of gleaming metal. 3 And He sent a hand-sized form and took me by the lock of my head and lifted me up between the earth and the heavens, and brought me to Jerusalem in visions of God to the entrance of the inner gate that faces north, where there was the seat of the image of jealousy that provokes to jealousy. 4 And behold, there the glory of the God of Israel was, like the appearance that I saw in the valley. 5 And He said to me, "Son of man, lift up your eyes toward the north." So I lifted up my eyes toward the north, and behold, from the north, at the entrance of the altar, a symbol of jealousy was there in the entryway. 6 And He said to me, "Son of man, do you see what they are doing, the great abominations that the house of Israel is committing here, far away from my sanctuary? And again, you will see greater abominations." 7 And he brought me to the entrance of the courtyard, and I saw, and behold, a hole in the wall. 8 And he said to me, "Son of man, dig through the wall." So I dug through the wall, and behold, there was a door. 9 And he said to me, "Come and see the abominations that they are doing here." 10 And I will come and see, and behold, all the form of creeping things and beasts, the end, and all the idols of the house of Israel, carved on the wall all around. 11 And seventy men from among the elders of the house of Israel, and Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, stood among them, standing before them, and a man was taking incense in his hand, and the cloud of the incense was rising. 12 And he said to me, "Have you seen, son of man, what the elders of Israel are doing in the dark, each in the chambers of his imagery? For they say, 'The Lord does not see us; the Lord has forsaken the land.'" 13 And He said to me, "You will still return and see great abominations that they are doing." 14 And he brought me to the entrance of the gate of the house of the Lord which faces north, and behold, there were women sitting there weeping for Tammuz. 15 And he said to me, "Have you seen, son of man? You will see greater abominations than these." 16 And He brought me to the inner courtyard of the house of the Lord, and behold, there was the entrance of the Lord's temple between the porch and the altar, with twenty-five men at their backs toward the temple of the Lord and their faces eastward, and they were bowing down to the east toward the sun. 17 And He said to me, "Have you seen, son of man, how it is a small thing for the house of Judah to commit the abominations that they do here? For they have filled the land with violence, and they are again provoking Me to anger, and behold, they are sending the branch into their noses." 18 And I also will act in my fury; I will not spare, nor will I have compassion, and they will call out in my ears with a loud voice, but I will not hear them.
