King James Version
Psalms • Chapter 18
1
For the conductor, for the servant of the LORD, for David, which he spoke to the LORD the words of this song on the day the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.
2
And the Lord said, "I will have compassion on you; strengthen me."
3
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
4
I will call upon the Lord; and from my enemies I will be saved.
5
The cords of death surrounded me, and the torrents of destruction terrified me.
6
The cords of Sheol surrounded me; the snares of death confronted me.
7
In distress I will call to the Lord, and to my God I will cry; He will hear my voice from His temple, and my cry will come before Him into His ears.
8
And the earth shook and trembled, and the foundations of the mountains were agitated, for He was angry.
9
Smoke has ascended from his nostrils, and fire from his mouth consumes coals that were kindled from it.
10
And he bent the heavens and came down, and thick cloud was under his feet.
11
And he rode on a cherub, and he flew; he soared on the wings of the spirit.
12
He makes darkness his hiding place; his canopy around me is dark water, thick clouds.
13
From the glow of his presence, a heavy cloud passed by in the hail and the coals of fire.
14
And the LORD thundered in the heavens, and the Most High gave his voice, hail, and coals of fire.
15
And he sent forth arrows and scattered them, and many lightning bolts, and he hurled them.
16
And the depths of the waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were laid bare at your rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils.
17
He will send from on high; He will take me; He will rescue me from many waters.
18
Deliver me from my strong enemies and from those who hate me, for they are too strong for me.
19
They will anticipate me on the day of my calamity, and the Lord will be my support.
20
And He brought me out to the broad place; He rescued me because He delighted in me.
21
The Lord will repay me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands he will return to me.
22
For I have kept the ways of the Lord and did not act wickedly against my God.
23
For all My judgments are before Me, and My statutes I will not remove from you.
24
And I will be blameless with him, and I will keep myself from my iniquity.
25
And the LORD sits for me as a righteous one; as a rock, my hand before my eyes.
26
With the faithful, you will show yourself faithful; with the blameless, you will show yourself blameless.
27
If you are clear, you will be clarified; and if you are twisted, you will be twisted.
28
For You, O Lord, will save the humble people, but You will bring down the eyes of the proud.
29
For you, O Lord, will light my lamp; the Lord my God will lighten my darkness.
30
For by you I will run a troop, and by my God I will leap over a wall.
31
The Lord's way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried; he is a shield to all who take refuge in him.
32
For who is God besides the Lord, and who is a rock except our God?
33
The God who girds me with strength and makes my way perfect.
34
He makes my feet like deer, and He sets me on my high places.
35
He teaches my hands for battle and my arms to bend a bronze bow.
36
And you gave me a shield of your salvation, and your right hand supports me, and your gentleness makes me great.
37
You shall widen my steps beneath me, so my ankles do not slip.
38
I will pursue my enemies and overtake them, and I will not return until I have finished them.
39
I will sweep them away, and they will not be able to rise; they will fall under my feet.
40
And you will gird me with strength for battle; you will subdue those who rise against me.
41
And You gave me the back of my enemies, and those who hate me I will cut off.
42
They will cry out for help, and there is no savior; for the Lord, and they will not respond.
43
And I will scatter them like dust on the face of the wind, like a discarded cloth.
44
Deliver me from the strivings of the people; set me as the head of the nations; a people I did not know shall serve me.
45
To hear, the ear will listen; the sons of strangers will deceive me.
46
The sons of foreigners shall be desolate and shall stray from their strongholds.
47
As long as the Lord lives, and blessed be my rock, and let the God of my salvation be exalted.
48
The God who takes vengeance for me and speaks to nations beneath me.
49
I will rescue me from my enemies; even from those who rise against me, deliver me from a man of violence.
50
Therefore, I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations, and to your name, I will sing.
