King James Version

Psalms • Chapter 39

1 For the conductor, with stringed instruments; a psalm of David. 2 I said, "I will guard my ways so that I do not sin with my tongue; I will guard my mouth with a muzzle while the wicked are before me." 3 I was silent; I held my peace regarding good, and my pain was stirred up. 4 My heart is hot within me; as I ponder, a fire burns; I speak with my tongue. 5 Make known to me, O Yahweh, my end and the measure of my days; what is it? Let me know how fleeting I am. 6 Behold, you have set my hands as nothing against you; yet all vanity, all mankind stands forever. 7 But in the image, a man will walk; only vanity they will collect, and they will not know who is gathering them. 8 And now, what I have hoped for, O Lord, is what I wait for. 9 From all my transgressions, deliver me; do not let the reproach of a fool come upon me. 10 I have been silent; I will not open my mouth, for you have done it. 11 Remove from upon me your hand; I am consumed by the burden of your blows. 12 In rebuking for sin, you will correct a man, and you will make all his desires vain; truly, all mankind is vanity. 13 Hear my prayer, O Yahweh, and listen to my cry; do not be silent, for I am a foreigner with you, a resident as all my ancestors.
