King James Version

Psalms • Chapter 55

1 For the conductor, with stringed instruments, a skillful song of David. 2 Listen, O God, to my prayer, and do not be silent regarding my supplication. 3 Listen to me and answer me, I will speak in my speech and I will ask. 4 From the voice of the enemy, from the presence of the wicked, for they cast evil upon me and in anger they hate me. 5 My heart is troubled within me, and the terrors of death have fallen upon me. 6 Terror and trembling shall come upon me, and horror shall cover me. 7 And I said, "Who will give me wings like a dove? I would fly away and rest." 8 Behold, I will distance the wanderer; I will dwell in the wilderness. Selah. 9 "Make haste, deliver me from the rushing wind of the storm." 10 In my lord's mouth, a tongue has been given; for I have seen violence and strife in the city. 11 By day and by night it surrounds her, and wickedness and toil are in her midst. 12 There will be in her midst, and her breadth will not be diminished, deceit and treachery. 13 For it is not an enemy who reproaches me, nor is it one who hates me that has magnified himself against me; then I could hide from him. 14 And you, man, like your value, mighty one, and well-known. 15 That we may sweeten the secret together in the house of God, we will walk in the emotion. 16 Death shall come upon me; hell will descend upon the living, for they are evil amidst their dwellings. 17 I will call to God, and the Lord will save me. 18 Evening and morning and noon I speak and I cry out, and He hears my voice. 19 He redeemed my soul in peace from the battle against me, for there were many with me. 20 God will hear and answer, and He sits in the east forever, where there are no exchanges for Him, and they do not fear God. 21 He sent my hand in peace, he profaned His covenant. 22 They divided the soft words of his mouth, and they approached his heart; his words were like oil, and they opened themselves. 23 Cast your burden on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never allow the righteous to be moved.
