King James Version

Psalms • Chapter 89

1 A skillful poem for Ethan the Ezrahite. 2 The mercies of the Lord I will sing forever; to all generations I will make known Your faithfulness with my mouth. 3 For I said, "The world will be built on kindness; the heavens will establish Your faithfulness in them." 4 I made a covenant with my chosen; I swore to David my servant. 5 Forever I will establish your offspring, and I have built for all generations your throne. Selah. 6 And the heavens will declare your wonders, O Lord; also your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones. 7 For who in the heavens can be compared to the LORD? Who among the sons of the mighty is like the LORD? 8 God is greatly revered in the council of the holy ones and feared above all around Him. 9 YHWH, God of Hosts, who is like You, mighty Yah, and Your faithfulness surrounds You. 10 You rule in majesty over the sea; in the swelling of its waves, You will be praised. 11 You struck like a mighty wind; with Your strong arm, You scattered Your enemies. 12 To You, O heavens; also to You, O earth. The world and its fullness, You have established. 13 North and right, you have created them. Tabor and Hermon in your name will rejoice us. 14 To you, O God, belongs a strong arm; your hand will be lifted up. 15 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; mercy and truth go before your face. 16 Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound; they walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance. 17 In Your name they will rejoice all day and in Your righteousness they will be exalted. 18 For You are the glory of our strength, and in Your favor, we will raise our horn. 19 For the LORD is our shield and the Holy One of Israel is our king. 20 Then you spoke in a vision to your holy ones and said, "I have set help upon the mighty; I have exalted a chosen one from the people." 21 I have found David My servant; with My holy oil I have anointed him. 22 That which your hand will establish with him, even my arm shall strengthen him. 23 The enemy will not lift him up, and the son of wickedness will not afflict him. 24 And I will smite my enemies and my haters. 25 And my faithfulness and my mercy are with him, and in my name his horn will be exalted. 26 And I will place His hand in the sea and in the rivers His right hand. 27 He will call me, "My Father, You are my God and the Rock of my salvation." 28 I too will make him my firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth. 29 Forever I will keep my lovingkindness for him, and my covenant will be faithful to him. 30 And I will establish his seed forever, and his throne like the days of heaven. 31 If my sons forsake my law and do not walk in my judgments. 32 If they desecrate my statutes and do not keep my commandments. 33 And I will punish with the rod their transgression and with plagues their sin. 34 And my kindness I will not turn away from him, and I will not be false to my faithfulness. 35 I will not profane my covenant, and I will not change what has gone out of my lips. 36 Once I have sworn in my holiness: If I lie to David. 37 His seed shall endure forever, and his throne shall be like the sun before me. 38 As the moon is established forever, and the witness in the sky is faithful. Selah. 39 And you have rejected and despised, you have become angry with your anointed one. 40 You have profaned the covenant of your servant; you have made the land desolate. 41 You have broken down all my walls and set in place my fortifications and my stronghold. 42 He was a reproach to all who passed by the way. 43 You have lifted up my right hand; you have made all my enemies rejoice. 44 Surely You will turn back the sword and will not raise it in battle. 45 You have stopped his purification, and his throne has been cast down to the earth. 46 You have shortened the days of my youth, and you have covered me with shame. Selah. 47 How long, O Lord, will you hide yourself forever? Will your anger burn like fire? 48 I remember what was created from the void concerning all mankind. 49 Who is the man who will live and not see death? He will rescue his soul from the hand of Sheol. Selah. 50 Where are your former kindnesses, O Lord, which you swore to David in your faithfulness? 51 Remember, O Lord, the reproach of your servants; how I bear in my bosom all the many nations. 52 That which your enemies have reproached, O Lord, that which they have reproached the footsteps of your anointed.
