King James Version

Psalms • Chapter 79

1 A psalm for Asaph. O God, the nations have come into Your inheritance; they have defiled Your holy temple; they have laid Jerusalem in ruins. 2 They have given the carcass of your servants as food for the birds of the heavens, the flesh of your faithful ones for the beasts of the earth. 3 They have poured out blood like water all around Jerusalem, and there is no one to bury. 4 We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a scoffing and derision to those around us. 5 How long, O Lord, will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire? 6 Pour out your wrath on the nations that do not know you and on the kingdoms that do not call on your name. 7 For he has devoured Jacob and laid waste his dwelling. 8 Do not remember our former sins; quickly let your mercies come upon us, for we are very poor. 9 Help us, O God of our salvation, for the sake of the glory of Your name; and deliver us and atone for our sins for Your name's sake. 10 Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" Let it be known among the nations in our sight the vengeance for the blood of your servants that has been shed. 11 Let the cry of the prisoner come before You, according to the greatness of Your arm, rescue those who are destined for death. 12 And restore to our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom the reproach with which they have reproached You, O Lord. 13 We are your people and the sheep of your pasture; we will give thanks to you forever; we will tell of your praise from generation to generation.
