Psalms • Chapter 22

1 For the conductor on the hind of the dawn, a psalm of David. 2 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Far from my salvation are the words of my roaring. 3 I call to you, O God, by day, and you do not answer; and by night, and there is no silence for me. 4 And you are holy, sitting upon the praises of Israel. 5 In you our ancestors trusted; they trusted and you delivered them. 6 To You they cried out and were delivered; in You they trusted and were not ashamed. 7 And I am a worm and not a man, a reproach of men and despised by the people. 8 All who see me mock me; they sneer with their lips, they shake their heads. 9 Roll to the Lord; he will deliver you; he will save you, for he delights in you. 10 For you are my strength, I trust in you from my mother's womb. 11 I have cast you out from the womb of my mother; you are my God. 12 Do not be far from me, for trouble is near, for there is no helper. 13 Many strong bulls of Bashan encircle me. 14 Their mouths have opened against me like a roaring, tearing lion. 15 Like water I have been poured out, and all my bones are scattered; my heart is like wax; it melts within me. 16 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to my jaws; you lay me in the dust of death. 17 For dogs have surrounded me; a band of evildoers has encircled me; like a lion, they are at my hands and my feet. 18 I will tell about all my bones; they will look and see. 19 They shall divide my garments among them and for my clothing they shall cast lots. 20 But you, O Lord, do not be distant; my strength, hasten to help me. 21 Save me from the sword of my soul, from the hand of the solitary dog. 22 Save me from the mouth of the lion and from the horns of the wild oxen you have answered me. 23 I will recount your name to my brothers in the midst of the assembly; I will praise you. 24 Fearers of the LORD, praise Him; all the seed of Jacob, glorify Him, and stand in awe of Him, all the seed of Israel. 25 For he has not despised and has not abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, and he has not hidden his face from me, and when I cried out to him, he listened to me. 26 I will praise you in the great assembly; I will fulfill my vows before those who fear you. 27 The humble shall eat and be satisfied; they shall praise the Lord, those who seek Him; may your hearts live forever. 28 Let all the ends of the earth remember and turn to the Lord, and let all the families of the nations bow down before you. 29 For to the Lord belongs the kingdom, and He rules over the nations. 30 They ate and all the fat ones of the earth bowed down before me; all who go down to the dust shall kneel, and his soul shall not live. 31 The seed will serve; it will be told of the Lord to the generation.
