King James Version

Psalms • Chapter 40

1 For the conductor, a psalm of David. 2 I waited for the LORD, and He inclined to me and heard my cry. 3 And He brought me up from the pit of noise, from the mud of the abyss, and He set my feet upon a rock, establishing my steps. 4 And He gave in their mouth a new song, a praise to our God; many will see and fear, and they will trust in the Lord. 5 Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and does not turn to the proud or to falsehoods. 6 Many wonders have you done, O Lord my God; your thoughts toward us cannot be compared to you. I will declare and speak of them; they are more than can be told. 7 You did not desire sacrifice and meal offering; you have opened my ears; burnt offering and sin offering you did not require. 8 Then I said, "Behold, I have come; in the scroll of the book it is written about me." 9 To do your will, O God, I have desired, and your law is within my heart. 10 I have proclaimed righteousness in a great assembly; behold, my lips will not be restrained; O Lord, You know. 11 I have not hidden your righteousness within my heart; I have declared your faithfulness and your salvation; I have not concealed your lovingkindness and your truth in the great assembly. 12 You, O Lord, will not restrain Your mercy from me; Your kindness and Your truth will always preserve me. 13 For evil things have surrounded me without number; my iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am unable to see; they are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart has forsaken me. 14 O Lord, please deliver me; O Lord, please help me quickly. 15 Let them be ashamed and confounded together, those who seek my life; let them turn back and be disappointed, who desire my harm. 16 They will put upon the heel of the shameful ones, saying to me, "The brother, the brother." 17 Let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; let them say continually, "The Lord be magnified, who loves your salvation."
